The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration’s (MDOT SHA) District 3 is currently recruiting for a Project Manager (Transportation Engineer III) in Prince George’s County. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below. This is a position specific recruitment. Nature of Work: The Project Manager will perform supervisory duties within the District 3 Maintenance Office. This position will be responsible for project management of various contracts with varying levels of complexity within Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties. The primary focus of this position will be the district wide management of all turf grass maintenance, tractor, and hand mowing contracts, all two and five person litter removal contracts, tree and brush contracts, and retention pond maintenance contracts at the district and shop levels. This position will track and monitor all on-going contractor tasks being performed in the district and report the status of all District 3- Maintenance projects on a regular basis. This position will also be responsible for providing initial approval of contractor invoices. This position will also be responsible for assisting with the management of Customer Care Management System (CCMS) issues dealing with maintenance operations. District maintenance contracts are administered, and maintenance goals are accomplished by subordinate maintenance inspectors and construction inspectors performing under the supervision and direction of this position. The Project Manager works independently to advise and assist Resident and Assistant Resident Maintenance Engineers, Highway Tech Managers, and consultants. This position will also provide support and technical assistance to inspection staff when needed.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.

Experience:
Two (2) years of experience in professional engineering.

Selective Qualification:
One (1) year of the required experience must have involved maintenance, construction, utility, traffic and/or bridge inspection.

  • This statement contains a selective qualification, which is more focused in scope than the minimum qualifications for this classification. Selective qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skill, or abilities).

Preferred Qualification:

The ideal candidate should possess the following:
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel programs
  • Experience in all aspects of contract inspection and filling out Inspector Daily Reports and logs
  • Ability to read, understand, and explain current construction and as-built plans

Notes:

1. Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.

2. Possession of a master’s degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of non-supervisory experience.

3. Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the state of Maryland, or in a state with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements.

Licenses & Certifications

Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in state of Maryland.

Candidate must possess or obtain the following certifications within one (1) year of appointment:
  • Temporary Traffic Control for Manages card.
  • MDE E&S Responsible Personnel Certification.
  • MDA Pesticide Certification.
  • DNR Roadside Tree care Expert Certification.
