The Role
BlueOwl is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to join us in providing a suite of solutions that enable our product development organization to create, and deliver BlueOwl's technical offerings. Our team focuses on enabling developers to reliably and rapidly deliver software.
Your day-to-day:
- Create, maintain, and support tools for supporting all facets of the software development lifecycle.
- Participate in on-call rotation to provide support for internal developer services.
- Work to improve system health and reliability.
- Collaborate with Development teams and Security to understand and fulfill project requirements while meeting best practices.
- Promote a supportive culture focused on building reliable systems and processes based on established best practices in the industry.
- Build new platform capabilities, features and patterns.
- Encourage developer autonomy and self-service by contributing to developer training and documentation for Platform products.
- Design and build new development tools and infrastructure.
- Work with customers to identify and document requirements in a way that can be clearly communicated with developers.
- Develop methods to automate and improve engineering processes.
- Test and examine code written by others, analyzing results, and providing constructive feedback when necessary.
- Work with developers to establish requirements and best practices for improving velocity.
- Design, plan, and break down projects into tasks.

- Bachelor's of Science in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
- 8+ years of experience in platform engineering or developer experience tooling.
- 5+ years of experience working with consumer facing websites and technologies.
- 3+ years of experience working with distributed systems.
- Experience building and designing self-service systems with mindfulness of customer experience.
- Experience and understanding of CI/CD processes and tooling such as GitLab, Circle CI, or Jenkins.
- Experience and understanding of Go, Python, or Bash languages
- Experience and understanding of Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Chef, Puppet, or Ansible.
- Experience working in cloud services such as AWS or GCP.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to lead discussions, contribute during code reviews, and capture tasks.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and great attention to detail.
Salary: $215,000 to $260,000
- Important note: all offered salaries are based on many factors, including experience in a similar role and geographic location of the candidate.

- Location: We are a remote-first company for most positions so you may work from anywhere you like in the U.S, excluding U.S. territories. Occasional travel may be required for team meetings or company gatherings. Employees based in the San Francisco Bay Area or in Providence, Rhode Island may commute to one of our local offices as desired.
- Hours: We maintain core meeting hours from 9AM - 3PM Pacific time for collaborating with team members across all time zones.
