We are seeking a Senior Payroll Manager to join our team to oversee our multistate payroll operations. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of multi-state payroll experience and be proficient in UKG (FKA UltiPro), Kronos Time and Attendance (Workforce Management) and Microsoft Excel. One must have the necessary knowledge and expertise to act as the subject matter expert for issues related to payroll and the various systems used. Must have basic knowledge of accounting as it relates to payroll, ensure SOX compliance, adhere to union contracts, and company policies. Must have demonstrated understanding of Federal, State, and Local payroll regulations including tax, wage and hour, and garnishments. This person will work Remote 90% of the time, with occasional visits to our Business Support office located in Irvine, CA.
- The Senior Payroll Manager is responsible for performing all supervisory and managerial functions required to administer/oversee the payroll process for all Smile Brands entities, 7,000+ employees
- Manages nationwide multi-state payroll reporting structure with numerous variances including tax identification numbers, UKG (Formerly UltiPro) pay controls and several union contract pay rate and benefit accumulation variances
- Directly supervises 2 Payroll Leads and oversee a total team of 7 employees in the Payroll Department
- Promotes customer service throughout department; ensure customer service standards are set and achieved by team; provide coaching and mentoring to staff to ensure customer service is accomplished individually and through teamwork
- Provides strong and effective leadership across team through collaboration, communication, problem solving, innovation, execution, and results
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices
- Manages the payroll tax filings through UKG and reconcile tax issues and discrepancies
- Works closely with and provides Accounting with funding reports, general ledger interface, journal entries, and various month end reports necessary to correctly allocate earnings
- Works closely with HRIS in managing the creation and implementation of new UKG company codes, earning/deduction codes and coordinates added features in UKG
- Manages the Union contracts regarding dues, initiation fees, accrual plans and documentation
Responsibilities
What We Need From You
- 10+ years payroll experience
- Minimum 5 years related experience in a Payroll Manager capacity
- Must be proficient in UKG (UltiPro) and Kronos Dimensions or Workforce Central
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to multitask and work with deadlines
- Exceptional organization skills is a must
- Experience managing payroll professionals
- Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university preferred but not required
