    GENERAL SUMMARY
    The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for the hands-on oversight, design, troubleshooting, and development of Bethel School District’s most complex networking, cybersecurity, communications, and monitoring systems. Essential to the position is the ability to evaluate, develop, troubleshoot, and maintain core network, information security posture, and communication infrastructure. It is critical that the Senior Network Engineer ensures the systems are robust, secure, redundant, and reliable. This position oversees the Network Engineering Department projects, workload, and assignments as well as ensures projects are completed on time and with high quality. The position will also evaluate staffing and programs for efficiencies, mitigate problems, and make recommendations for change.The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for providing technical direction, critical problem solving, and superior customer service as well as a primary escalation point and lead.
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Oversees and manages the daily operation of Bethel School District’s network, security, and communication systems including design, performance, configuration, maintenance, and repair.
    • Engineer, test, and deploy modern and reliable networking and communications systems.
    • Lead and communicate network and communications system troubleshooting and configuration changes.
    • Develop and maintain high quality and accurate network monitoring and alerting systems.
    • Maintains and implements current industry-standard practices through professional development, conferences, certifications, peer relationships, and other strategies to meet new and evolving requirements.
    • Perform root cause analysis troubleshooting to understand network system errors, resolution, and prevention.
    • Perform regular reviews to identify gaps in security architecture and provide recommendations for mitigation.
    • Evaluate, test, and recommend a high-quality phone system.
    • Collaborates with the Senior Systems Engineer to analyze and recommend security controls, procedures, and business processes.
    • Leads design meetings to develop solutions to routine and complex challenges.
    • Routinely performs testing, reporting, and benchmarking of network and communication status.
    • Provides ongoing technical and business support, including further customizations of existing solutions.
    • Designs and develops data analytics and reporting to implement appropriate design models for data warehouse(s) and databases.
    • May supervise and evaluate program staff.
    • Quickly analyzes, identifies, and resolves system malfunctions using Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and critical thinking techniques.
    • Establishes and maintains the networking environment by installing, configuring, testing, and documenting the equipment/network systems according to the design specifications.
    • Leads the performance and day-to-day networking tasks to ensure network reliability, availability, security, and serviceability.
    • Applies innovative solutions to solve complex and difficult problems.
    • After hours, flexible, and remote work may be required.
    • Provide short and long term vision for the future direction of the network and communications systems.
    • Participates in regular conversations with the Director of Operational Technology and other involved personnel, regarding goals, direction, and priorities.
    • Treats confidential information in a professional manner.
    • Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    Education
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Network Engineering, Cybersecurity, Software Development, or related field.
    • Five years of demonstrable related experience may be used in place of a bachelor's degree in the listed fields.
    • Current possession of Cisco certification(s) or achievement of certification within 12 months of hire required.
    Experience
    Five or more years of experience in at least three of the following areas:
    • Large-scale network operations, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
    • In-depth experience in modern and complex networking systems, TCP/IP, routing, software defined networking, dynamic VLANs, 802.1x, BGP and MPLS.
    • Working knowledge, understanding, and troubleshooting of modern wireless networking technologies including 802.11, MIMO, QPSK, ODFM, radio propagation, security channel configuration strategies and utilization, interference, and spectrum management.
    • Configuration and troubleshooting of proper network switch, router, and firewall management.
    • Extensive experience with Palo Alto firewalls and F5 security appliances.
    • Extensive experience with packet capture, analysis, and troubleshooting.
    • Private/Public LTE planning, deployment, and troubleshooting.
    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Ability to communicate complex design, technical issues, business, and product requirements clearly and succinctly, both verbally and in writing.
    • General understanding of database modeling/design concepts and object-oriented Design/Analysis strongly preferred.
    • Experience of more than one of the following: Development Methodologies, Application Development, Application Delivery, and/ or Systems Integration.
    • Background in business systems analysis, focusing on planning, analysis, and design phases of the product development lifecycle.
    • Experience working with web-based applications.
    • Commitment and willingness to see issues through to resolution.
    • Excellent attention to detail with strong project management and organizational skills.
    • Proven flexibility and adaptability in effectively driving results in an environment of changing priorities.
    • Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to manage diverse client groups and influence others without direct authority.
    • Analytical reasoning and aptitude with quantitative analysis.
    • Familiarity with IT systems, database design, and data structures.
