Key Responsibilities:

Airport Operations

The Senior Manager AO Safety & Regulatory Compliance Hub is primary responsible to develop, implement and coordinate the hub Airport Operations Ground Safety program, facilitate compliance with the United Safety Management System as it pertains to United’s Airport operations, and promote compliance with applicable policies, procedures and regulations.

The overall objective is leading safety risk in operations in a manner that minimizes risk of occupational injuries, aircraft and equipment damage, and maintains Regulatory Compliance in ground operations. The leader is also responsible to coordinate, as necessary, the services of outside professionals in the fields of ergonomics, industrial hygiene and other specialties in order to alleviate potential safety and health hazards in the workplace. They will participate in the development of corporate safety & health procedures.

  • Lead all aspects of Environmental Standards, Safety Programs, OSHA Compliance and AO Safety Management System (SMS) compliance in the hub
  • Develop annual Safety Plan in coordination with operational leadership
  • Coordinate activities of Safety Advocates and deploy them strategically to support safety objectives
  • Work closely with the hub Airport Operations VP in reducing safety accident potential through methods including direct interaction and mentor, safety risk management and auditing for adherence with Standard Policies and Procedures
  • Lead all aspects of regulatory compliance program requirements, with consideration of both US and International Safety/Health standards
  • Review Safety Plans with operational leadership to verify implementation and maintenance of the Plans components
  • Supervise progress towards completion of the requisites of the Safety Achievements Levels
  • Provide trending and cause factor analysis to leadership related to safety performance metrics to enable a collaborative approach to control measures and corrective action initiatives
  • Coordinate with corporate safety department to ensure standard processes and latest tools & analysis
  • Lead hub Safety Action team meetings and ensures coordination of Safety risk management work across airport partners and tenants
  • Take a principal role in damage event investigations, working closely with leadership and vendor management in root cause analysis, corrective actions, and safety assurance
  • Represent Airport Operations Safety in industry, forums and professional safety organizations
  • Directly report on safety risks and status of mitigation to the hub Vice President
  • Required to ensure budget adherence and advising the AO Director of Safety on key issues
  • Location specific oversight related to the hub, such as regional airport safety responsibilities and seasonal flying

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years of relevant work experience
  • Management, Business Administration, Industrial Safety & Health or similar
  • OSHA 10-30-hour training
  • 7+ years of Operations/Safety Airline experience or Industrial safety
  • 1+ year(s) of managerial training
  • Written/oral Comprehensive understanding of regulatory requirements, OSHA, NFPA, IATA AHM and FAA
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

  • Master's degree (SMS Trainer Certification, MBA)
  • Maintenance, operational and or air carrier safety and SMS experience
  • Materially participated in hazard identification and safety risk mitigation work
  • Lead frontline Below the Wing employees
  • Ground Safety Action Program experience
  • Operational airline knowledge and experience
  • Strong solid understanding of SMS
  • Solid understanding of United’s Ground Safety Action Program
