The qualifications include at least four years investigative experience and at least four years’ experience as a Canine Handler. Proficiency as a Canine Handler and DCJS certification as a Canine Handler are required. Experience investigating narcotics offenses is preferred. Candidates should also have exhibited demonstrated leadership, management, and supervisory potential. This position will require a high degree of organizational and writing skills, as well as must be available to respond immediately to incidents and possibly remain in the area as needed.
OSI investigative staff must possess, at a minimum, knowledge of the applicable laws, the highest levels of behavior including personal integrity and ethics; fairness; character; judgment; attitude; and respect for and ability to work with others inside and outside OSI. Appropriate licensure and certifications (including being or becoming a peace officer qualified to carry a firearm) are also required. The ability to travel is also necessary. The Office of Special Investigations (OSI) is seeking qualified candidates for consideration to serve as a Senior Investigator (SI) in the Narcotics Investigations Division’s (NID) Canine Unit. NID interdicts controlled substances brought into correctional facilities by inmates, visitors, or staff, and investigates any drug-related criminal activity associated with the Department.

The SI is the sixth-level leadership and supervisory level role (under the chief, assistant chief, director, deputy chief investigator, and assistant deputy chief investigator) responsible for overseeing activities within NID’s Canine Unit. The SI will report directly to an Assistant Deputy Chief Investigator in NID. A SI is required to manage a caseload; supervise Canine Investigators; lead small groups on assignments; and assist with the development of strategies, operations, and tactics. This SI will be responsible for field supervision of Canine Teams and Canine operations, conducting routine facility visits and evaluating Canine Handlers and their dogs.

Location: Long Island City, Wallkill, or Fishkill. Office assignments are based upon the needs of OSI and the Department. Travel is required.
