As a Senior Hardware Test Engineer, you will be a contributing member of a new product development team, responsible for test of hardware for embedded communication and control modules that support Rockwell Automation’s Connected Enterprise & Linking Technology strategies. This role reports to the Manager- Development Test and is located in Chelmsford, MA.
What you will do
- Collaborate with design engineers to ensure product and functional requirements are created in a manner that supports logical testing.
- Create hardware validation and verification test plans that are based on product and industry standards, and traceable to product and functional requirements.
- Create hardware test strategies, test cases, and test specifications to support test plans.
- Design, build, and/or procure hardware test tools, equipment, platforms, and/or environments needed to support validation and verification tests.
- Develop schedules and estimate effort to support timely execution of test plans.
- Coordinate, execute, and track completion of validation and verification tests per the test schedules.
- As needed, lead and/or support research efforts to identify the root causes of test failures from EMC, shock and vibration, environmental, and other effects.
- Identify and report issues to the design engineers, document test results in formal test reports, and conduct formal test result reviews with the design team.
- Define and develop processes with supporting documentation that align with company initiatives.
- Develop expertise on relevant industry standards and participate in standards committees as needed.
Skills you have
- Experienced in various hardware test engineering areas of focus including functional verification test, system validation test, and traceability to requirements.
- Ability to collaborate with Electrical, Mechanical, Firmware, and Software engineering peers to ensure the timely development and test of high-quality products.
- Ability to understand hardware schematics, identify testing requirements, performing electrical tests and troubleshooting failures.
Basic qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, neither now nor in the future, for this job opening.
Preferred qualifications
- Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of hardware test engineering experience, including the execution of validation and verification tests. Testing disciplines include electrical (EMC, functional, etc.) and mechanical (shock, vibration, environmental, etc.).
- Experience in the creation of test plans and test cases (procedures/specifications) to validate product compliance with the specified hardware requirements.
- Experience in the creation and/or specification of test automation equipment and routines in support of hardware tests.
- Experience in use of the “V-Model” for Product Development.
- Experience with requirement, test, and anomaly management tools such as Jama, qTest, and JIRA.
- Familiarity with the Change Control Board or triage process for test anomaly review.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methods.
- Ability to mentor/support team members on industry best practices, including anomaly entry and the overall test process.
- Two years of technical project leadership experience.
- Experience with applying IEC/EN 60947 and/or other relevant industry standards, and/or experience as a participant in the development of industry standards.
- Excellent communication skills, along with the ability to read, write, and speak English fluently and with people at all levels.
- Familiarity with Rockwell Automation products (including Logix controllers and software tools) and/or other industrial control equipment would be a plus.
- Ability to work independently.
- Flexibility to work within a changing environment.
- Ability to travel up to 10%, including international destinations.
