This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Engineering Manager for our San Jose, California office. Be involved in projects with our Geotechnical & Tunneling Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact

  • Serve as a Tunnel/Underground Engineering Manager on large transit projects involving TBM tunneling and underground station design and construction in urban area
  • Manage multidiscipline engineering team on underground structure design or construction project
  • Lead pursuit and proposal preparation of project with significant geotechnical and underground design/construction elements
  • Manage collaboration between owner, design team and contractor
  • Oversee interface coordination between station design team, TBM tunneling, system and track team
  • Provide oversight on technical issues related to design and construction of underground structures

This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of this policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.

This position is contingent upon client approval of candidates put forth for consideration by WSP

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 15+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering, geotechnical and infrastructure design.
  • California Professional Engineer license required.
  • Advanced proficiency with geotechnical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, standard of care, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
  • Extensive advanced proficiency with infrastructure design.
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant construction laws, codes, regulations, permitting, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements, and the business impact upon the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability with establishing, implementing, and managing multiple larger-scale discipline-related programs, documents, projects, and practices for a line(s) of business.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to manage staff, and effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Strategic lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization of responsibilities in a pressure work environment.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, clients, and company-wide staff, including those with whom no formal hierarchical relationship exits.
  • Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Geotechnical or Structural Engineering
  • Program/Construction management experience of underground transit project
  • Experience in Design/Build and Progressive Design-Build
  • Experience communicating with project stakeholders (i.e. City of San Jose, BART, etc.)
  • Proven experience in program management of design and constuction of large transit projects
  • Proven experience in preparing contract drawings, specifications and cost estimates of large transit projects
  • Ability and willingness for travel, field work, and work at project site
  • Excellent verbal and written communications

Compensation

Expected Salary: $200,000 - $250,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
