Department

Duties include coordination and performance of graft, tissue, bone or organ processing for transplant and other medium complexity cell-based therapies under GTP or GMP as required. Coordinates product characterization and release assays, maintains product processing files, assists clinical staff with infusions, and preparation of investigational products. Participates in assessment and implementation of compliant cell-based therapies and methodologies consistent with the facility's role.

A Brief Overview

Coordinates product characterization and release assays, maintains product processing files, assists clinical staff with infusions, and preparation of investigational products. Participates in assessment and implementation of compliant cell-based therapies and methodologies consistent with the facility's role.

What you will do
Employees must abide by all Joint Commission requirements including, but not limited to, sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient care, patients’ rights and ethical treatment, safety and security of physical environments, emergency management, teamwork, respect for others, participation in ongoing education and training, communication and adherence to safety and quality programs, sustaining compliance with applicable regulations.
Processes human cellular products, including bone marrow, hematopoietic progenitor cells pancreatic islets, and other cells of interest derived from human tissue, organs and bone and medium complexity investigational product processes, for infusion according to approved SOPs consistently demonstrating a high adherence to aseptic technique.
Prepares clinical samples, performs and documents quality control procedures as per approved SOPs e.g. Cell counts, Viability, Endotoxin assays.
Completes and compiles all required documentation for inclusion in paper and electronic processing records and reviews data for compliance and product release.
Ensures completion of all testing required to assess product safety and quality.
Reviews and documents adherence to procedures of medium complexity (verifier)
Coordinates scheduling and assists clinical staff with cellular product infusions.
Reports deviations and variances to facility management and BMT physicians in accordance with approved policies and procedures, leads low complexity investigations and participates in audits.
Manages material and patient product inventory
Coordinates operational readiness of the cell processing facility in accordance with approved policies and procedures.
Coordinates and performs QC assessments of equipment and routine maintenance of equipment as per approved SOPs.
Coordinates proficiency testing, validation and implementation and update of cell processing procedures and test methods, as directed.
Communicates both verbally and in writing with hospital and university staff, and internal and external technical support services as necessary, to assure operational readiness of the cell processing facility and completion of assigned duties.
Maintains technical and regulatory proficiency in all areas of laboratory operation applicable to cell processing and ensures ongoing compliance e.g. FACT, AABB, CFR 1271 etc.
Assist with auditing of cell processing and QC records to verify compliance with approved policies and procedures
Assists in new SOP, process and assay development. Oversees document and process updates of existing procedures.
Trains junior staff on low/medium complexity procedures
Scheduled on-call and weekend work is required with flexibility to extend working hours as needed
Education Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in a clinical or life science-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university.
Experience Qualifications
Two (2) to five (5) years of experience in Hematology, Immunology, Blood Banking with at least one year of Cell tissue, bone or organ Processing and/or Cryopreservation experience or Fluorescense Activated Cell Sorting (FACS).
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to follow written and oral instructions/procedures of moderate complexity in English.
Willingness to participate in and complete continuing education and demonstrate proficiencies related to cell processing and commensurate with assigned duties.
Ability to speak and write and revise documents of moderate complexity in English.
Ability to contribute to process development and regulatory compliance.
Ability to independently troubleshoot and solve problems of moderate complexity
Ability to function independently and within a team environment
Ability to perform mathematical calculations
Attention to detail and documentation
Proficient in computer systems and software used in functional area (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, databases).
Working knowledge of Medical Terminology, scientific concepts and practices.
Knowledge of Good Tissue Practices (GTP) and/or Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as applied to cell therapies
Willingness to cross-train in other areas within the facility.
Demonstrated proficiency in aseptic technique, cell processing of moderate complexity and cryopreservation.
