Senior Case Manager


The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office (MSO) is seeking a qualified professional for the position of Senior Case Manager to work as a member of the Program Services team at the Middlesex Jail & House of Correction located in Billerica, MA. The Senior Case Manager will be responsible for supervising case managers and providing oversight and quality control over case management practices, including but not limited to risk-needs assessments, individualized treatment/service plans, and case notes. This position reports to the Chief of Treatment and Re-Entry Services. The shift hours for this position are flexed between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and the Senior Case Manager will also be required to work 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., as needed by management. The days off are Saturday/Sunday. The shift hours and days off are subject to change based on operational needs and at the discretion of management. This is a full-time, non-exempt position covered under a collective bargaining agreement (NEPBA, Local 525).


Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Conducting routine audits of case management work;
  • Consulting with Family Services and Victim Services staff to identify appropriate treatment and programming;
  • Working closely with Classification Officers to ensure that classification decisions are informed by the risk-needs assessment process and account for specific treatment/service needs;
  • Conducting risk/needs assessments and other intake-related questionnaires;
  • Composing individualized treatment/service plans;
  • Providing general case management;
  • Educating the incarcerated population about the benefits/entitlements to which they are afforded;
  • Assisting the incarcerated population with voter registration and in obtaining personal documents, such as state identification cards and birth certificates;
  • Facilitating/leading psychoeducational and soft skills programming;
  • Leading weekly orientation sessions in the Orientation Housing Unit and collaborating with other employees to educate, inform, and help navigate newly incarcerated individuals;
  • Ensuring that orientation materials are routinely updated to account for changes in policies, procedures, practices, and programming;
  • Organizing and leading monthly staff meetings of case management staff;
  • Identifying training and professional development needs of case managers; recommending to the Chief of Treatment and Re-Entry Services and the Assistant Superintendent of Program Services ways to support skill building and professional growth of case managers;
  • Performing and/or assisting in other duties as required by the Chief of Treatment and Re-Entry Services and the Assistant Superintendent of Program Services.

Working Conditions:


Individual may encounter verbal and physical abuse from offenders while working in a correctional facility and will be required to interact with people who are under physical and/or emotional stress. May be required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, work alone in an isolated area, lift and carry heavy objects up to 100 lbs., and may be exposed to adverse weather conditions.


        • Working in a correctional facility on weekends, nights and holidays;
        • Required to work over eight (8) hours depending on the operational and inmate programing needs of the facility;
        • Direct contact with inmates/detainees in a secure correctional setting;

The individual selected for this position shall be cognizant of the confidential and sensitive nature of working in a law enforcement agency and must comply with all institutional rules regarding safety and security.


Qualifications


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services; Sociology; Psychology or another relevant field;
  • Master’s Degree and prior supervisory experience preferred;
  • At least five (5) or more consecutive years of documented case management experience. Prior experience working in a correctional setting or with justice-involved individuals preferred;
  • Strong knowledge/access to services/benefits available to incarcerated individuals from community-based organizations, as well as state and federal agencies;
  • Experience building partnerships and working with a variety of community organizations preferred;
  • Strong knowledge and ability to assist incarcerated individuals suffering from mental illness and substance use disorder, as well as those with significant trauma histories;
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment; multi-task, keep accurate records and generate timely reports;
  • Exceptional interpersonal, writing, communication, organizational and time management skills are required;
  • Excellent interviewing and assessment skills;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • Must have own transportation.

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. Must have an active valid driver’s license, the right to legally operate a motor vehicle in Massachusetts and pass a criminal background check.
