Why does the job exist?
This position will provide fugitive enforcement and all procedures associated with drug interdiction in a correctional setting.
How does it get done?
- Conduct investigations
- Provide daily monitoring of inmate telephone calls
- Monitor all Security Threat and Gang activities
Who are the customers?
- New Mexico Corrections Department (NMCD)
Ideal Candidate
- Checking for contraband, disturbances and evidence of infractions of rules
- Reporting security breaches, disturbances and violations of rules
- Searching of offenders and their living quarters
- Correctional Officer
- Assisting in transfer/transportation of offenders
Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or Equivalency and completion of the NM Correction's Academy.
Employment Requirements
This position is safety sensitive. Employment is subject to a pre-employment and random drug testing in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state rules and regulations regarding alcohol and/or drug testing. Must have successfully completed the New Mexico Corrections Academy. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. The applicant must be a U.S. citizen, must be at least 18 years old, have a least a high school education or its equivalent, be of good moral character, have not been convicted of a felony in the courts of this or any state or in the federal courts, and successfully pass any physical and aptitude examination the department may require. Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS"), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.
Work is performed in an adult prison environment, which includes daily contact with and supervision of inmates. Willingness to work in a correctional facility, may be required to work odd hours, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
