Job Purpose
To supervise the operation of the distribution system, and monitor, operate and maintain control of the transmission, distribution and station facilities.
Key Accountabilities
- Accountable for the safe, secure, reliable, and efficient operation of National Grid’s New York’s Distribution system.
- Provide real-time analysis, monitoring, control, and emergency response for the distribution system, including:
- Coordinate planned, forced, and emergency outages with applicable entities.
- Perform Load Flow Analysis, Contingency Analysis using energy management applications such as Advance Distribution Management System (ADMS).
- Operate distribution system equipment within established ratings.
- Implementation of emergency procedures.
- Evaluate and assess actuation of automated systems
- Dispatch resources to provide load balancing and to maintain system within operating limits.
- Provide day-ahead analysis for the distribution system and take actions as necessary such that the system can be operated within real time and contingency limits.
- Monitor the health and accuracy of the Distribution Management System (DMS), reporting anomalies to responsible individuals.
- Review forecast weather conditions analyze potential impact to the system and develop action plans to mitigate developing system issues.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulating agency and company standards and procedures.
- Facilitate an error-free environment; to prevent personal injury, widespread outages, system-wide disturbances, and potential fines.
- Maintain close and effective working relationships with the DER Operators, Aggregators, CNI staff, Transmission Control Center, field work force, and with neighboring utilities, and customers.
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proven strong interpersonal and human resources skills.
- Demonstrated organizational and planning skills.
Qualifications
- 4-year Electrical Engineering/ Power Systems preferred or 3-5 years’ experience as an Operator or similar related experience.
- Experience with and knowledge of the operation of the electric distribution and transmission system and equipment.
- Familiarity with relationships between market and system operations
- Knowledge of energy management systems and related applications.
- Ability to evaluate courses of action, and to make decisions with potentially minimal information in real time and anticipatory timeframes.
- Proven leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must have an operating knowledge of personal computers including Word and Excel.
- Ability to work rotating shifts for a 24/7/365-day operation.
