Registered Nurse

Major Function

This employee is responsible for, in collaboration with educational staff and others, establish and manage a coordinated school health program, consistent with the mission and vision of Pepin Academies.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Demonstrates a broad knowledge and understanding of health conditions and appropriate interventions in the school setting.
• Develops a medical alert health concern list in a timely and confidential manner, updating as needed
• Plans and manages care for students with special health needs and provide nursing services to students when needed
• Maintains confidentiality
• Communicates positively and respectfully with students
• Manages emergency situation efficiently
• Reports child protection issues to appropriate authorities as directed by school policy and Florida code
• Administers, supervises, delegates and records the administration of medication per school policy.
• Monitors students’ responses to medications given when requested
• Promotes wellness through health education
• Facilitates student groups as per IEP
• Organizes and conducts health screenings, including height, weight, vision, dental and Scoliosis
• Monitors student compliance with state immunization laws
• Maintains health records in an organized and effective manner
• Works effectively with administration and school personnel
• Communicates appropriately with students and parents/guardians.
• Maintains current CPR or instructor’s certification
• Provides health-related staff development for school personnel
• Trains and monitors school based personnel for use of universal blood and body fluids precautions
• Maintains flexibility in performance of responsibilities
• Performs related duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

Licensure as a professional Registered Nurse

Must be current in or complete CPR training
