DESCRIPTION:

Provides protective services to schoolchildren crossing streets at intersections.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Stops traffic.
• Assists children in crossing streets by leading them.
• Communicates with police department members on a portable radio.
• Reports any accidents or traffic problems at intersections.
• Fills in for other crossing guards during course of year.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education and Experience:

• Ability to read and write and minimal experience required (less than 6 months). High school or GED preferred.

Licenses and/or Certifications:

• VA driver’s license

Knowledge:

• Knowledge of portable radio and police codes

Skills:

• Communication and customer service skills

Abilities:

• Ability to deal with all levels of the general public

Work Environment:

• Worker is exposed to outdoor weather conditions, extreme noise, and dust and to potentially dangerous conditions or people.

Essential Physical Activities:

• Stooping, walking, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $12.00 - $15.20 per hour
