Milton-Freewater Oregon is a multi-cultural community located in the northeast corner of the state within ten miles of Walla Walla Washington. The Milton-Freewater Unified School District is now taking applications for the following position:
SCHOOL COUNSELOR – McLoughlin High School
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid school counselor license or ability to obtain.
- Master’s Degree in education or related field preferred.
- Minimum of three years of successful teaching in a public-school setting is preferred.
- Demonstrated understanding of the, Oregon graduation and diploma requirements.
- Possess skills to communicate, through oral and written communication, and present academic information to the school community, in a variety of forums.
- Experience serving high school students from different socio-economic levels - preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership roles coordinating and providing seminars, workshops, or in-service programs.
- Experience working with students on an individual and group basis toward the solution of problems related to home, school, family, health/emotional adjustments, peer relations, academics and attendance.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate student records and regularly inform parents about students’ academic progress.
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer usage including, but not limited to, e-mail, internet software, and student information through web-based applications, Microsoft Office, programs, and Google Classroom Applications.
- Demonstrated ability to assist staff in areas such as student behavior, absenteeism, or individual student supports.
- Willing to be a member of the MFUSD Crisis Management Response Team.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and be willing to run a program to support students.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work independently and in a group on complex projects.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Trauma-Informed Practices and the ability to support students and staff in strategies and resources.
- Demonstrate ability to support students with scholarships and post high school plans.
- Experience in individual and group counseling desired.
- Genuine appreciation and understanding of high school students.
- Willingness to be flexible in the weekly schedule to meet the needs of the high school.
- Fulfills other related duties as assigned by administration.
- Mental and physical skills and abilities required to perform essential functions of the position and the ability to meet counselor performance standards.
- Spanish language ability is preferred.
Please note:
To comply with OAR 333-019-1030, all staff, substitutes and volunteers in K-12 schools are required to be fully vaccinated by October 18, 2021. Upon hire we will need to collect a copy of your COVID-19 vaccination card or evidence of a qualifying medical or religious exception from the mandate.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Including, but not limited to, frequent standing, walking, sitting, grasping, bending, twisting, reaching and fine manipulation. Frequent keyboarding also required. Must be able to lift a maximum of 35 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
COMPENSATION:
Position starts fall of 2023. Current salary range is $40,895.00 - $75,423.00 (depending on level of experience and education). The 2023-2024 school year salary will be adjusted pending upcoming negotiations. The Milton Freewater School district offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefit package that includes:
