St. Catherine of Alexandria is a thriving, well-resourced Catholic school that is part of the Archdiocese of Chicago. We are located in the southwest suburb of Oak Lawn. Our school counselor is responsible for helping students succeed academically, socially and emotionally. The individual in this position works with students individually, in small groups, and in school-wide or classroom settings. In addition to direct student services, the school counselor provides support to teachers and parents to address the social and emotional needs of students.
SCHOOL COUNSELOR
Part-Time (flexible scheduling)
Description of Role:
- Provide direct and indirect student services to help develop positive mindsets and behaviors.
- Deliver 1-1 short-term solution-focused individual and group counseling to students who drop in, request a check-in, or have been referred by a teacher, administrator or parent.
- Assist with the development of positive student behavior support systems and development of intervention strategies.
- Serve as a resource for administrators, faculty/staff, and parents in working with students in grades PK - 8 to create a positive learning environment and help students develop a positive self-concept.
- Work closely with the Principal, Assistant Principal, Teachers and Support Staff to address behavioral/emotional/social concerns/needs.
- Facilitate teacher consultations/education about social/emotional issues impacting learning.
- Assist with crisis intervention, de-escalation, and provide support through serious events.
- Collaborate with outside therapists/counselors/psychologists to coordinate student learning with clinical therapy work.
- Consult with parents to discuss home and school behavior/emotional issues and to provide guidance and referrals as appropriate.

- Assist in consulting with the Principal and Assistant Principal about the development and alignment of the disciplinary policies and procedures throughout grades K-8; Counselor does not have a disciplinarian role – rather works to find the root cause and support interventions through a team approach.
- Support student health and wellness.
- Follow all Archdiocesan policies
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree required; master’s degree in counseling/psychology/social work is preferred
- School counseling endorsement preferred, if holding a PEL
- Experience in an educational setting
- Experience working with students with behavioral and emotional challenges
- Clear communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Comfortable with technology in a variety of settings

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
