Summary

Provides a clean, safe and sanitary environment in support of Commercial Sanitation Services (CSS) and their clients mission, vision and values. Ensure that all equipment is properly cleaned and sanitized according to regulatory standards. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe food processing and promotes a clean, healthy and safe environment at the clients’ site.

***This position is 11pm - 7am 6 Days a week. Previous Sanitation Leadership experience is a Must.***

Job purpose

Diligently support the clients’ food safety program while being professional, consistently providing excellent results and exceeding the clients’ expectations.

The Sanitation Assistant Manager is a member of a cleaning crew whose duties are to support the Manager in achieving clean and sanitized food processing plants which are operated by their employer's clients to meet Quality
Control and Bacterial Standards imposed by the clients and applicable governmental agencies, such as the USDA and FDA.

The Sanitation Assistant Manager is required to ensure their team completely cleans and sanitizes the plant quickly and efficiently (all machines, machine parts and utensils are sanitary and assembled prior to start up during relatively short time periods after the plants normal production shifts, which typically requires that the Sanitation Assistant
Manager works during late evenings/night/early mornings shifts (specific work shift to be determined by the Manager) and frequent overtime (weekends, days, evenings, holidays). In addition, the position is also responsible for overseeing and maintaining the cleanliness of all processing, warehouse, dock, employee premises and any additional areas required throughout the clients work area.

The Sanitation Assistant Manager is required to work in an environment that is wet, very humid and undergoes extreme temperature changes, from very hot to very cold. Due to the changing environment, a worker must constantly be aware of the effects of these changes. The Sanitation Assistant Manager will also be working around large processing equipment which involves chemical usage to complete the sanitation process.

The Sanitation Assistant Manager must be able to lead the sanitation crew in the absence of the manager and work as a team along with other members of the crew, in a fast-paced environment and be flexible and willing to perform varying tasks per the supervisor's instructions and in accordance with all safety guidelines mandated by CSS, its client and OSHA.

Duties and responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to provide leadership for the sanitation crew in absence of the manager.
  • Understand and follow all safety procedures, utilizing appropriate safety equipment at all times.
  • Show workers how to successfully complete their work. Lead by example, jumping in when necessary to keep operation moving.
  • Ensure the sanitation crew properly breaks down, cleans and reassembles all machines, machine parts and utensils
  • Clean machine up to USDA and FDA standards.
  • Ability to read chemical labels and Safety Data Sheets to understand how to properly handle chemicals being used in the plant by Sanitation
  • Maintain cleanliness of the processing, warehouse, dock, and employee premises throughout the clients’ work area.
  • Responsible for carrying out food safety and quality duties and following the Safe Quality Foods (SQF) polices/procedures including reports of any food safety and quality concerns to their manager and/or quality assurance team.
  • Report any food safety and quality issues/concerns to their manager and/or quality team.
  • Help to support the requirement of keeping all finished product and pallets clean and free from contamination to ensure the highest food quality and food safety.
  • Performing daily sanitation of assigned area as well as ensuring that processing lines/area are cleaned and sanitized, including performing janitorial duties when needed.
  • Responsible to clean, inspect, sanitize, walk with QA and Manager during pre-operation and setup in a timely manner
  • Assists in transporting heavy equipment and waste/recycled product with forklifts or other devices with manager’s authorization to use client’s motorized equipment
  • Performs all tasks safely and in a manner that will not create or pose a direct threat to the health and/or safety of the sanitation worker or any other person.
  • Cleans and maintains carts and shelving used in storage of foods and supplies by placing food and supplies into appropriate areas of storage.
  • Effectively and efficiently complete any other assigned tasks
  • Adheres to all Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays

System Responsibilities

  • Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with company, client and OSHA policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the Manager immediately.
  • Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports non-compliance activities to the manager.

Qualifications/Experience

  • 3 years experience as a sanitation worker in food processing facility

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Certifications

  • No professional certifications required

Working conditions

  • Exposure to chemical cleaning solution while dressed in personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Some potential for exposure to blood and body fluids

Physical demands

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs independently not to exceed 80 lbs without assistance
  • Frequently lift/move hoses, equipment, chemical containers weighing 50-80 lbs. throughout each and every work shift
  • Perform varying tasks while standing, lifting, crouching, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, sitting, walking and reaching during long periods of time.
  • Wear employer-supplied personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, face/eye shields, wetsuits, aprons, boots, etc.

Direct reports

This role has no direct reports or supervisory duties except when the Manager is away, the Assistant Manager may have to perform supervisory duties.
