Purpose:
Provide Environmental Health & Safety services to designated area.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate pickup with facility's selected removal vendor.
  • Identify any waste handling problems and generate recommendations on remediation.
  • Conduct employee training sessions for users, generators and handles as needed.
  • Coordinate wastewater sampling and manage wastewater discharge and monitoring reports.
  • Maintain understanding and knowledge base to assist in development of required programs, policies and procedures, reports and preparation for regulatory agency reviews, including employee training.
  • Evaluate complaints through interaction with affected staff and others.
  • Complete IAQ sampling and interpret results.
  • Analyze potential causative factors and develop testing methods to evaluate.
  • Develop written report on results and recommendations for corrective measures.
  • Coordinate approved corrective measures with hospital personnel as necessary.
  • Evaluate regulatory and other requirements for IH sampling.
  • Identify locations/department within facilities requiring initial, follow-up, routine and adhoc monitoring.
  • Select appropriate sampling methodology and design studies for efficacious sampling.
  • Coordinate sample collection with involved departments/individuals.
  • Collect samples.
  • Coordinate sample analysis.
  • Conduct initial evaluation of sampling results.
  • Develop written reports on all sampling.
  • Assist in procurement of MSDS for all inventoried materials.
  • Designate hazardous waste collection, aggregation and storage procedures in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Coordinate waste removal with generator departments.
  • Maintain required manifests.
  • Maintain computerized hazardous waste tracking system.
  • Respond to emergency situations as needed on a routine and on-call basis (Fire response, Hazardous Material spill - management and coordination of response, Flood. Internal/External disasters, Workplace injuries).
  • Complete safety inspections of facilities in accord with all applicable regulations.
  • Conduct initial orientation and on-going education for employees and fire response team members.
  • Evaluate, update and re-draft fire response plans. Conduct required safety drills.
  • Maintain basic familiarity with NFPA Life Safety Code and the BOCA code.
  • Coordinate completion of fire pump tests.
  • Assist Environmental Support Services department as needed in completion fo fire suppression, detection and annunciation system testing.

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 2 years of Environmental Health and Safety related required.
  • Prior experience in environmental health and safety in a healthcare environment preferred.
  • Ability to operation with minimal supervision and at all time directs the work of others.
  • Interact effectively and professionally with all levels of the organization.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
