Retail Manager
Full-Time Equivalent: 1.0 FTE (40 hours/week)

Schedule: Tu-Fri 8-4:30, Sat 8:30-5:00

Starting wage: $15.00/hour

Summary: Join our vital downtown thrift shop! The Retail Manager leads employees and volunteers in displaying and selling donations. This employee reports to the Operations Director and collaborates with other managers.

Mission: Newton Et Cetera Shop is a Christian resource for meeting human need by raising money for Mennonite Central Committee and the local community through the sale of donated items; providing quality, affordable, recycled merchandise for the community; and encouraging stewardship and recycling.

Qualifications:

3. Exhibits strong leadership skills and has experience managing others in the workplace

5. Able to lift and carry 30-50 pounds

6. Able to work with long periods of standing, bending, carrying

7. Able to remain flexible and positive in a fast-paced environment where priorities change quickly

8. Able to follow oral and written directions

9. Able to communicate effectively with donors, customers, volunteers & staff; Spanish- language abilities a plus

10. Able to maintain confidentiality and handle money and sensitive information

11. Willingness to work as part of a team with staff and volunteers

12. Self-motivated, willing to take initiative; able to prioritize processing tasks and identify improvements

13. Able to work in an environment with multiple allergens

14. Proficient with Microsoft Office products and email

15. Experience in thrift shop retail or processing operations

16. Criminal background check required upon hire

Duties:

• Retail Floor Presence o Oversee and manage daily retail operations, including staffing from open to close. o Actively monitor inventory levels and merchandising throughout retail floor. o Monitor and replenish silent auction merchandise as needed. o Answer stocking-related questions for retail and workroom volunteers. o Plan space for high supply items with processing team and other managers. o Fill in open volunteer positions or delegate open positions to staff. o Assist clerks with POS, customer issues, and policy questions. o Monitor health and safety procedures of retail environment. o Update signage for color sales, shop holidays and special events.
• Administrative o Collaborate with other managers to establish priorities and meet deadlines. o Contact Square to resolve POS issues. o Actively support Gift Shop Sales by monitoring inventory and replenishing as needed. o Answer emails, phone calls and social media messages with retail questions. o Attend and contribute to scheduled meetings and walk-throughs.
• Staff development o Provide direct training, supervision and feedback for retail staff and volunteers. o Effectively communicate updates and changes and provide retraining to staff and volunteers. o Coach staff and participate in performance reviews. o Collaborate with General Manager to develop volunteer engagement.
• Visual/Marketing o Communicate special store hours and events via social media outlets. o Update front window displays seasonally (Jan-Feb, Mar-May, Jun-Aug, Sep-Oct,

Nov-Dec) or as needed for special events. o Follow-up with customers on display inquiries on a “first come, first serve” basis. o Create customer experience with in-store events, collaborate on special sales promotions.

Supervision Exercised: Retail staff and volunteers.

Reports to: Operations Manager who reports to the General Manager.
