Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group):
Technician supporting research and development of materials by performing material characterization. This role involves preparation of testing specimens, routine operation of standardized testing, assisting with non-standard experimentation and methods development, maintaining and basic troubleshooting of process equipment, and quality control monitoring.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Provide hands-on technical support in thermophysical properties characterization to enable the study of physical properties of materials. Prepare specimens for testing following exact specifications. Perform laboratory experiments related to identifying thermophysical characteristics of materials. Work on assignments that are moderately complex in nature where judgment is required in resolving problems and making routine recommendations. Complete routine testing with little to no instruction needed and new assignments with on-the-job training. Complete routine maintenance of testing equipment and monitor quality of data. Maintain safe and clean work environment.
Travel requirements (please note if international):
- Minimal international travel opportunities available, but not required.
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
- 40 hours per week, first shift, some flexibility.
Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration):
- Associate degree in a technical field.
Required Skills (These are skills that candidates must possess):
- Technically curious, self-motivated and be able to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to monitor and execute designed experiments
- Hands-on technical aptitude
- Strong attention to detail, rigorous execution, and data accuracy
- Measurement system operation experience
- Some equipment / process aptitude with ability to troubleshoot and characterize key process drivers
- Able to manage multiple priorities at once
- Strong logistical skills
- Able to work with data and communicate results from data

- Experience in the operation of thermophysical properties measurements
- Mechanical and electrical aptitude
- Knowledge of statistical process control
