Position Highlights
The Churko Lab within Cellular & Molecular Medicine is seeking an inquisitive, well-organized, and highly motivated person for the position of Research Technician I. The candidate will perform data collection, laboratory techniques, and assist with and provide general laboratory support of limited scope requiring initiative and judgment based on knowledge and understanding of scientific theory. Dr. Churko’s research lab focuses on using informatics to understand cardiovascular development and disease mechanism using human induced pluripotent stem cells.

This is an Extended Temporary Employment (ETE) position.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Performs scientific data collections and analyses involving routine procedures characterized by moderate use of independent judgment. Communicates research progress and experimental problem resolution to senior lab personnel and PI regularly.
  • Conducts experiments using various tests, protocols, and analyses where procedures are clearly defined and results readily determined. Knowledge of aseptic technique required.
  • Maintains comprehensive detailed records of studies conducted and their outcomes.
  • Compiles and organizes data, prepares data for computer input and generates computerized statistical analyses using software packages. Makes preliminary conclusions and assists researchers in interpreting the data.
  • Operates essential laboratory and experimental equipment including microscopes, spectrophotometers, centrifuges, analytical balances, ELISA plate reader, and gel electrophoresis units. Understands the applications and limitations of various equipment items.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of modern research methods, data collection, and analyses.
  • Knowledge of basic veterinary technician practices/animal care and husbandry.
  • Ability to work well with others as a team to maintain progress, which is satisfactory to funding agencies and in accordance with specified project timetables and milestones.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, orally and in writing.
  • Skill in troubleshooting experimental problems, analyzing, and evaluating data.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences.

  • Prior UA experience.
