Overview
The Center for Prevention of Progression of Blood Cancers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School seeks a full-time Research Data Specialist to help with data entry, data quality assurance, and data reporting tasks for multiple myeloma-related database projects and other studies advancing understanding of blood cancers and their precursor states. This person will be a member of the Center for Prevention of Progression (CPOP) team and have dedicated focus on the collection, entry, reporting, and quality assurance of clinical data for studies following patients with multiple myeloma and other hematological cancers and their precursor conditions. This person will play an integral role in ensuring data accuracy and integrity across CPOP studies and databases, and must show strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining data integrity at all times.
The Research Data Specialist will work under the supervision of the CPOP data manager, as part of a team of data specialists and student research assistants with dedicated focus on data management. They will focus on database projects related to multiple myeloma and its precursor conditions. The Research Data Specialist will perform data entry, data quality assurance, and similar tasks. They will assist with contacting patients and/or outside healthcare facilities via phone, e-mail, or fax to request and receive medical records and data from outside institutions. They will perform data entry into our RedCap databases of data from both internal and external medical records and data sources. They will check data for quality and escalate any quality concerns to the CPOP data manager.
We are only able to consider candidates who reside in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, or Rhode Island.

Responsibilities
Evaluates and tracks the eligibility of patients seen in CPOP for inclusion in the stud(ies).
Accesses patient demographic and clinical information from clinical systems, including Epic. Reviews and abstracts data from the medical record and enters the data into the RedCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) database(s).
Reviews data for quality and completeness. Performs data quality checks on patients previously entered into the database. Takes note of common data entry errors/quality issues and communicates this to the team.
Performs assigned tasks related to data cleaning, reformatting, and reporting in the RedCap database and/or Microsoft Excel.
Contacts patients or outside healthcare facilities and coordinates requests for medical records from outside facilities. Organizes and stores outside medical records in secure file storage area.
Abstracts pertinent information from outside medical records and enters the data into the RedCap database(s).
Attends weekly team meetings.
Collaborates with principal investigators, IS staff, and clinic staff in the continued development of the RedCap and other research databases.
May assist principal investigators and staff in the creation of data reports for quality assurance measures.
Communicates concerns about data integrity or ongoing data collection challenges with the research team. Participates in team discussions around how to design and improve the data annotation/quality-checking process.
Participates in on-boarding and ongoing training, as required by the institution.
Other responsibilities as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree required.
0-1 year of related work, volunteer, or internship experience in a healthcare or clinical research setting is preferred.
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, is required.
Prior experience working with electronic medical record data and performing medical record chart review preferred.
Prior exposure to electronic data entry/data management systems, such as RedCap, is preferred.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining data integrity at all times.
Must practice discretion and adhere to institutional confidentiality guidelines at all times.
Excellent organizational and communication skills required.
Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize competing tasks for multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong interpersonal skills - ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff and external contacts.
