Responsibilities:

The research assistant (RA) works closely with a team of faculty and staff, undergraduate and graduate research assistants from Middlebury College and the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey in developing online learning modules for social science research methods.


This is a part-time (15 hrs/week), temporary summer position (10-12 weeks). Anticipated duration of this appointment is from June 1st, 2023 through August 31st, 2023. The starting salary range for this position is 15.00 to 17.25 depending on the location of the work performed.


The research assistant works individually and within a team developing educational content for specific topics and building online modules for asynchronous, self-paced instruction. Under direction of project leads and project manager, specific tasks include:

  • Identify scholarly and instructional source materials, both video and text-based, relevant for specific module research topic.
  • Produce draft written content for selected topics for project lead review
  • Participate in team editing process of text and online modules, involving student research assistants and project leads
  • Develop interactive review exercises for users, using plugin software (H5P).
  • Build and edit pages in module, using WordPress
  • Respond to module changes determined through beta testing feedback

General responsibilities:

  • Proactively reach out to team members, including project leads and project manager with issues and questions
  • Manage and monitor work progress in accordance with project timelines
  • Work independently and collaboratively with student research assistants
  • Participate in regular team meetings

Requirements

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Knowledge about specific social science research methods through academic study and/or research experience
  • Strong writing skills and oral communication skills
  • Experience using WordPress or other online publishing tools
  • Effective interpersonal skills required
  • Facility with online work productivity tools, including Microsoft Office Suite, Google suite, Slack, Hypothesis
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff
  • Ability to work remotely

Education/Experience: Some college education with academic study or research experience in a relevant social science discipline required.
