Within the spirit of “Making People’s Dreams Come True”, The Reporter’s primary function is to identify compelling stories in the community and inform the public in a factual, timely manner. These duties are accomplished while delivering Raving Fans customer service to both internal and external customers.

This is not a remote position.

Salary commensurate with experience, starting at $16.58 per hour.

Responsibilities:

• Collects and analyzes information about newsworthy events to write about for publication or broadcast
• Curates a stable of reliable sources and effectively evaluates leads and tips to develop story ideas
• Gathers and verifies factual information and authentic detail through interview, observation, and research
• Translates bureaucratic lingo into clear, concise and reader-friendly language
• Organizes material, determines emphasis and writes stories according to style, standards and deadlines established by their editor
• May be required to specialize in one type of reporting, such as sports, politics, business, etc.
• Edits and assists in editing stories for broadcast and appears on affiliated television programs or radio broadcasts
• Occasionally writes stories for The Villages Magazine
• Fosters a culture of collaboration and contributes to a healthy team dynamic
• Performs other duties as assigned

Educational/Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent and six months to one year related experience either in college journalism or outside experience with a daily newspaper
• Must have a valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to company Standards
• Must be computer proficient and familiar with online databases and other research tools
• Must possess a working knowledge of news photography
• Prompt and regular attendance is a requirement of this position
