An exciting opportunity has opened up within the Navigators Re for a Reinsurance Accounting Manager. Navigators Re supports $600m of premium across a number of niche lines worldwide. The team has a strong desire to expand the breadth and depth of its Reinsurance portfolio with ambitions to grow its capabilities in the marketplace.
This position provides key support to NavRe underwriting. Serving as a key resource and point of contact for Brokers, Underwriters as well as accounting and claims. The ideal candidate for this position demonstrates a developing understanding of accounting, contract management and client relationships. In addition, he/she should be proactive, great leaders, good communicator and have the ability to multi task with structure.
This role can be worked remotely with the strong preference to be located near one of these locations: Coral Gables, FL; Danbury, CT or Stamford, CT for occasional travel to the office.
Responsibilities:

Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department including month, quarter and year-end process, accounts payable/receivable, cash receipts/disbursements

Develop and monitor monthly presentations and reports for senior leadership

Develop process documentation for systems and day to day functions

Promote cross training for accounting team to eliminate key man risk

Perform treaty reviews to ensure revenue is recorded in the right period and with appropriate support.

Provide recommendations, improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions

Assign projects and direct staff to ensure compliance and accuracy

Perform and coordinate SOX test of control design and test of control effectiveness for identified key controls

Proactively work with External and Internal Audit to resolve any audit queries
Requirements:
-
Proven working experience as Accounting Manager, Accounting Supervisor or Finance Manager - Managing Remote Teams is a plus

Reinsurance Accounting Experience Required

Advanced computer skills on MS Office, accounting software and databases

Ability to process, organize and analyze large amounts of data

High attention to detail and accuracy

Ability to direct and supervise

Highly developed knowledge of insurance / reinsurance contracts, claims, coverage, financial transactions, reporting, collections and other insurance / reinsurance related matters. Direct experience handling complex casualty claims is preferred

Data Analytics/ Quality communications and presentations, often to senior management, with a strong analytical focus that consistently covers all pertinent issues on complex reinsurance matters

Excellent working relationships with both internal and external partners including Brokers, Reinsurers, Cedents, Legal, Actuarial, Direct Claims, Underwriting, Operations, vendors and/or IT, to achieve the most favorable outcomes

Collaborate and work effectively with others, including senior management

Project leadership experience with a strong record of success is strongly preferred. Demonstrated leadership acumen is strongly preferred

High level of discipline and ability to work independently to drive bottom line results

Bilingual - Spanish/English a plus
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$94,080 - $141,120
