Responsibilities*

Coordinates procedural preparation and follow up for patients with complex cardiac arrhythmias and disorders.
Collaborates with other health care professionals, such as physicians, referring offices, scheduling, nursing, and diagnostic services to provide a coordinated plan of care for our patients. Reviews patient medical records from referring physicians and establishes diagnosis and treatment plan with the medical staff.
Orders and reviews cardiac monitors.
Interrogates pacemakers, ICD’s and other devices. Makes adjustments to settings of devices based on protocol and under supervision and direction of EP Fellows, APP’s, and Attending physicians.
Orders labs and initiates anticoagulation as necessary and monitoring antiarrhythmic medications.
Provide coordination of EP Clinics and follow-up of EP patients.
Provide ongoing support for consult EP fellows interrogating in-patient devices and programing as directed.
Provide ongoing Cardiology patient support per clinical and QI protocols.
Participate in ongoing research studies and in the development, implementation, evaluation and outcome monitoring of clinical care for Cardiology patients.
Coordinate and follow-up of Cardiology patient test and procedures.
Communicate plans of care with patients, family members, physicians and other consulting services.
Work closely with Cardiology physicians, Electrophysiology Fellows and Advanced Practice Providers and EKG faculty, in providing expert care to Cardiology patients in the Clinic setting.
Develops, evaluates, and reviews current nursing protocols and standards of care for cardiac patients utilizing current research and clinical practice guidelines.
Participates in the development and implementation of ongoing educational updates for the cardiac nursing program.
Works collaboratively with colleagues to develop, evaluate and revise patient education programs and materials. Develops tools to evaluate patient education outcomes from various educational interventions.

This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C.
Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level F.

Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position.

Required Qualifications*

Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Michigan.

One of the following:
Minimum of three (3) years cardiology RN experience (experience must have been within the last five (5) years), Or have recent RN experience within the last three (3) years processing device home monitoring for pacemakers and ICD’s
Advanced Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation experience within the last five (5) years- Must be able to test for this during interview.

Desired Qualifications*
Experience evaluation/Interrogation and programming of pacemakers and ICD’s. Experience with transvenous pacemakers including independence in programming and troubleshooting. Bachelors of Science in Nursing Cardiology experience in a critical care setting within the last five (5) years. At least one (1) year of recent (within the last three (3) years) ambulatory care experience. This ambulatory care experience must include telephone triage. Previous experiences using clinical protocols to make decisions for adult patients. Clinical leadership experience such as charge nurse, preceptor, or clinic instructor. Experience with MiChart, EPIC, Word and Excel. Desire to be on unit committees to improve patient outcomes. Demonstrated accountability/dependability as evidenced, for example, by a stellar attendance record; by completion of mandatories and unit-based competencies within an established time frame; by meeting deadlines and completing required work. Knowledge of the University of Michigan Hospital Nursing policies and practice. ACLS certification BLS certification

Shift/ Hours: Day shift, 10hr shifts *Flexibility required
Ability for Off-site clinic travel is required.
