The Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department’s (OTRD) mission is to advance the exceptional quality of life in Oklahoma by preserving, maintaining, and promoting our natural assets and cultural amenities.

OTRD is seeking a part time Recreation Specialist to provide guest assistance at Alabaster Caverns State Park in Freedom, OK. The hourly rate for this position is $12.00.
Job Description
Typical Functions
  • Provides tours of caverns, facilities, natural resources, and recreation areas; provides detailed information concerning state facilities or tourist attractions
  • Assists with activities; educates guests on the natural and cultural resources of the park area
  • Assists in gift shop operations, including the use of a cash register
  • Assist with maintaining caverns, trails, and displays; cleaning facilities; park maintenance
  • Assists with recreational programs and social activities programs
  • Performs related work as required and assigned
Education and Experience
Requirements at this level consist of a strong interest in biological science and Parks and Recreation.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies
  • Knowledge of recreation programs and of methods involved in planning and conducting a recreational program.
  • Knowledge of environmental science and natural and cultural history.
  • Skill in conducting group activities; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with facility staff or tourists; and, communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.

Special Requirements
  • To operate state-owned vehicles in the performance of regularly assigned duties; a successful applicant must possess a valid Oklahoma driver’s license at the time of appointment.
