Why does the job exist?

Position will be responsible for the overall management of the inmate files assigned to respective facility. Position will provide proper interpretation of judgment and sentences, good time award calculations, classification, reviews and release processes.

How does it get done?

  • This is completed by accurate interpretation of court orders (J and S) to determine length of sentence and parole term.
  • Creating a file based on the J and S.
  • Conducting an intake audit and then periodic thorough file audits as outlined in policy.
  • Begin a checklist, research for warrants, wants, NCIC, detainers.
  • Post and compute good time awards and forfeitures.
  • Prepare transport orders. Maintain an accurate tracking database.
  • File and log misconduct reports along with all relevant case documents.
  • Provide victim notification alerts. Process for a certified release.

Ideal Candidate

Experience with the following:

  • Assisting interdisciplinary teams in the evaluation of offenders
  • Participating in follow-up services and provided monitoring of offenders
  • Inmate Classification process
  • Re-entry process
  • Application of Good Time Laws

Minimum Qualification

Associate Degree from an accredited college or university in Guidance and Counseling, Penology, Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Family Studies/Services, Criminology, or related field as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and experience in a related field and/or experience in a correctional setting, records management, file auditing, case management, law enforcement, counseling, social work, government assistance programs, rehabilitative environment, working on health or social service-related matters, behavioral health, policy and/or statutory compliance totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required education.

Employment Requirements

This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to a pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Pre-employment background check is required and conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS"), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.

Work is performed in an adult prison environment, which includes daily contact with and supervision of inmates. Willingness to work in a correctional facility, may be required to work odd hours, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
