Recruitment: The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is recruiting for a Real Property Specialist I in the Office of Real Estate (Baltimore City). This is an Interview and Hire position that is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below for this position.
This announcement may also be used for future vacancies throughout the State of Maryland for MDOT SHA.

Nature of Work: The Real Property Specialist I will enforce the federal and state laws and regulations that govern the statewide Outdoor Advertising and Junkyard Control Program. This includes but is not limited to; researching outdoor advertising signs and junkyard ownerships, monitoring compliance along all state-maintained highways, issuing warning and violation notices to sign and junkyard owners. This individual will also review and approve applications for new signs and junkyards, maintain comprehensive sign and junkyard inventories, prepare and issue new and renewal outdoor advertising/junkyard licenses and/or sign tag permits. Lastly, the Real Property Specialist will assist with past-due outdoor advertising and junkyard accounts and coordinate the removal of illegal signs. These duties require extensive coordination with other SHA offices, businesses, property owners, as well as state, county, and local officials. This position will also negotiate and appraise off-premise outdoor advertising signs in conjunction with land acquisitions.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: None.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should have excellent written and oral communication skills.
Notes:
1. Additional experience in professional or technical real estate work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted for the required education and experience on a year-for-year basis.
Candidate must possess of a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the state of Maryland.
