Responsibilities and practice

The Birmingham office of Dentons Sirote is seeking an experienced Paralegal to join our Real Estate practice group. The person hired for this position will work closely with our attorneys and other staff members to assume such responsibilities as:

  • Assist real estate attorneys in all facets of real estate transactions and related transactions
  • Receive closing orders and initiate the file opening process
  • Confirm balances for each closing transaction and process check requests, ensuring proper accounting entries and procedures
  • Locate file and abstracts, review preliminary title opinion and check against abstract to ensure that all exceptions have been satisfied
  • Coordinate or obtain releases and check judgments or affidavits
  • Clear liens and prepare files for settlement and prepare settlement statements
  • Organize and maintain multiple files
  • Review term sheets and draft commitment letters
  • Create and manage closing checklists, including preparation and circulation of regular closing status updates
  • Prepare initial draft loan documents
  • Manage due diligence files; review due diligence items and save to the system; update checklists
  • Review leases for pertinent closing information
  • Communicate with clients, title companies, brokers, local counsel and other third parties throughout the transaction
  • Obtain and deliver signature pages; prepare fully-executed documents, attaching exhibits
  • Handle closing logistics: organize and send original loan documents to title companies and clients; review closing statements; prepare invoices; obtain wire instructions, send to client, and follow-up regarding closing payments
  • Handle post-closing logistics: obtain and send recorded documents and final title policies to client; create and circulate closing transcripts
  • Facilitate and attend closings in and out of the office
  • Additional duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or certificate from an accredited paralegal program is preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of real estate or corporate experience.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills.
