The scope of work

JA Solar is looking for a Public Relations & Community Director to join our management team. Reporting to the General Manager, this person will drive and manage the reputation of JA Solar in the U.S. through owned and earned communications.

Under the direct supervision of the General Manager, the Public Relations & Community Director oversees federal, state, and local government relations; local community activations and relationships; serve as “face” of the community with key stakeholders; emergency response coordination; local media spokesperson; and serve as part of leadership team of above, as well as internal and external communications.

Major responsibilities

Project preparation stage:

1. Strategically coordinate and oversee efforts to achieve JA Solar’s public goals along with Engineering Projector Director.

2. Build and maintain strong working relationships with Salt River Project (SRP), facility developer, engineering contractor, law firms, government agencies and outside partnerships.

3. Stay abreast of ever-changing PR landscape and best practices in the field, research and identify trends, explore new opportunities, and bring forward creative ideas.

4. Serve as the primary representative of JA Solar to generate awareness and support for the JA Solar’s public policy agenda.

Project operation phase:

1. Develops and implements public relations campaign plans, often in collaboration with marketing, government relations and other departments.

2. Be responsible for shaping JA Solar’s media relations strategy at both a national and local level.

3. Draft high-volume of well-written and strategic external materials

4. Collaborate with key company collaborators across engineering and marketing to influence strategy and decisions.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public relations, communications or similar.
  • 10+ years’ experience working in government relations and community affairs
  • Ability to grasp complex issues and navigate the Regulatory processes.
  • Ability to lead in association work with others in industry who may have differing viewpoints
  • Comfortable speaking in front of groups at events, in front of employees and media, and making presentations to a broad audience.
  • Must be quick thinking, calm and nimble under pressure, and comfortable managing ambiguity

Preferred

  • Significant political campaign experience and media/communications expertise
  • Relationships with key stakeholders in Phoenix, Arizona.
  • Having a certain understanding of China and proficient in using Mandarin Chinese (working language level);

Contract period: 12-18 months
