The Salvation Army in Tucson is looking to fill an open Public Relations and Community Engagement Manager position. The successful candidate for this position will have effective/persuasive verbal communication skills, excellent writing skills, be a person of high integrity and the ability to work with the public and be a representative of The Salvation Army in a professional manner. QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Public Administration, or related field
- Minimum 5 years marketing, public relations, events and community engagement experience
- Understanding of the history, mission, and ministry of The Salvation Army
- Computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe illustrator, Social Media & Web software
- Effective/persuasive verbal communication skills
- Effective and concise writing skills
- Website management/effectiveness knowledge
- Person of high integrity and willing to support and promote the mission of The Salvation Army
- Able to work irregular hours, holidays, and respond to crises or deadlines on short notice
- Represent The Salvation Army in a professional manner and appearance
- Must have the ability to work with the public, and be a representative of The Salvation Army’s image in the community
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License with a clean driving record
- Must pass The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Training annually
- Able to pass a criminal background check
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Public Relations
- Create, plan & manage a public relations plan for the greater Tucson area
- Coordinate all public relations aspects of activities, marketing events, emergencies or breaking stories, supporting all local units
- Prepare and distribute fact sheets, press/news releases, photographs, scripts, video/audio recordings to media representatives, and other groups who may be interested in learning about or publicizing TSA events, programs, etc.
- Submit or facilitate articles, stories, and information pieces to The Salvation Army publications and external media outlets on a regular basis
- Cultivate/develop close working relationships with media representatives/outlets
- Create and coordinate production of marketing materials and presentations
- Field all media inquiries, including interviews and on-air sound bites, follow leads as requested
- Responsible for all event-based media.
- Act as managing editor for all publications including website development and updating, social media and email marketing plans
- Write event speaking points and scripts
- Promote good will and community awareness through such publicity efforts as speeches, social and business gatherings, etc.
Events
- Coordinate and assist by providing a robust public relations and community engagement campaign in support of the operation of events and programs, such as but not limited to ChildSpree, Community Holiday Dinners, Toy Distribution.
- Assist with public relation materials for TSA participation in annual Veterans Stand Down, HopeFest and Homeless Connect
- Create and manage projects relating to statewide, regional, or nationally designated program activities, and promotions
- Work with area Officers & managers to promote & assist in the planning of an annual luncheon/dinner & award events as assigned
- Arrange for and/or take photos and/or videos at TSA events and fundraisers to memorialize the event
- Maintain event mailing databases
- Assist in coordination of disaster programs
Community Engagement
- Develop and maintain relationships with corporate and community partners
- Assist in finding resources for Social Service programs to expand upon existing programs. Prepare and enlist the assistance of the DHQ Grant team when necessary to secure additional funding for existing and new programs
- Assist with the maintenance of and contractual compliance with grants and contracts, including statistical reporting, & board reporting when requested.
- Work closely and cooperatively with local Corps to promote positive program outcomes in service to the community.
- Working knowledge of the State of Arizona statutes and codes that have an impact upon the development and operation of services to poor and homeless families.
- Represent The Salvation Army when interfacing with community agencies, commissions, committees, and other groups as necessary.
- Work with and support the efforts of Advisory Board Program Committee for Tucson
- Act as a liaison with outside agencies to disseminate information regarding the homeless and other services that are provided by The Salvation Army.
- Research, develop, and initiate new forms of community participation (Community tables, events, booths, etc.)
- Attend speaking engagements and tours on behalf of The Salvation Army.
- Prepare both internal and external reports as required
- Other duties assigned as related to the position of Public Relations & Community Engagement Manager.
