The Project Engineer position with RBA Builder’s Inc. serves an essential function in construction operations through the assistance of project managers and superintendents in areas of documentation, schedule, vendor and client relations from project inception to completion. The RBA Project Engineer handles day to day work challenges confidently and is willing and able to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity and rapid change while showing resilience in the face of constraints, frustrations or adversity while assisting with various projects throughout Southern California.


Operations:
  • Experience in field operations with an understanding of the construction means and methods with prior assignments on different project types.
  • Experience with interpretation and understanding of critical project documentation including drawings, specifications, and soil reports.
Maintains a clear understanding of correct shop draw review, coordination and approval including substitutions and coordinates all submittals with other trades while evaluating for scope increases by Architect comments.
  • Develops and monitors submittal log for complete submission coverage and record of all final approvals.
  • Maintains contract documents including, but not limited to: Up to date Drawings and Specifications, As Built Set and Permit Set.
  • Ability to use historical shop drawing information to review shop drawings and assist the Project Manager with change order analysis and can negotiate 75% of subcontractor change order issues.
  • Experience in implementing and utilizing Spectrum as a management tool.
  • Ability to assist both Superintendents and Project Managers with project close out including punch list management, punch list walks, and proper document compilation when assembling close out manuals.


Estimating:
  • Ability to assist with bid package preparation, writing scopes of work and reviewing for recommended award.
  • Ability to perform systematic drawing review during preconstruction.
  • Review and understanding of subcontractor proposals for feedback to the Estimating team and Project Manager.
  • Understands the estimating process from inception (Request for Proposal/Quotation) through project awards.
  • Actively participates in the Estimating Handoff Meetings to ensure continuation of the job knowledge from estimating.


Scheduling:
  • Understands logic of critical path management (CPM) scheduling systems and has ability to link Project Schedule with Shop Drawing and Submittal schedule.
  • Develops and maintains a procurement log of all long lead material, including coordination of deliveries with submittals.
  • Develops Micro Schedules to assist Superintendents in analysis of complex and intricate areas.
  • Develops contingency plans and assists or drives in executing the contingency plan(s) when procurement issues may affect schedule.
  • Provides accurate dates for submittal and procurement activities to the project team for accurate schedule update in prompt manner.


Financial Understanding:
  • Ability to assist with bid package preparation, writing scopes of work and reviewing for recommended award.
  • Has a basic understanding of project cost control systems, and how they relate to proper cost coding, and sub status reports.
  • Ability to evaluate RFI and Shop Drawing/Product Manufactures Submittal responses for added scope or design modifications.
  • Ability to alert the project team of potential cost impact via entry of PCI with identified potential cost impact.
  • Understands how budgets are developed and managed including projections to end of job.
  • Ability to assist in the process of change orders.
  • Understands the importance of cash flow, and timely completion of the project.


Education/Experience Requirements:
  • Degree in Construction Management or a related field or Minimum 3-5 years of combined project engineering and project management experience in the construction industry or production environment.
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of corrective/preventative action reporting.
  • Strong process improvement and scheduling experience.
  • Valid California driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check for badging purposes at all Boeing and or Northrop Grumman facilities.
