Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Program Support Specialist for the Office for Diversity and Community Engagement within the New Jersey Medical School. The Program Support Specialist will provide central administrative support for the winter and summer SMART program, the Summer Youth Scholars Program (SYSP) and the Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP). In addition the Program Support Specialist will provide administrative support to the Office for Diversity and Community Engagement (ODACE) and Office for Primary Care and Community Initiatives (OPCCI).

- Is responsible for the selection process for the SHPEP program participants, including downloading and screening applications, accepting applicants, distributing program information and follow-up calls in collaboration with the coinvestigators (Medicine, Dental, Pharmacy and Nursing).
- Work closely with the teaching assistants, and instructors for the summer programs, ensuring that curriculum, schedules, and reports are completed in a timely manner.
- Provides one on one counseling with completion of individualized academic plans.
- Coordinates the SMART program initiative including the recruitment, selection process for the SMART program participants, downloading and screening applications, notification of acceptance, distributing program information and follow-up calls.
- Manage and coordinates the SYSP program, which includes curriculum design, recruitment of students, supervision of the instructors and teaching assistants, monitoring and maintaining the SYSP student database, and follow-up with students regarding their SAT scores.
- Provides academic counseling and guidance to all pipeline students in the SMART and SYSP programs; tracking their progression to ensure that they are on target for college and eventually medical school and/or any other health profession.
- Works with the teachers in the SMART program to develop curriculum, assists with the selection of the teaching assistants, and carry out the day-to-day functions of the program.

Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree with at least three (3) years of progressively more responsible administrative experience.
- Experience with counseling students who experience academic, personal and/or interpersonal challenges to meet their diverse learning needs.
- Experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and statistical software required.

- Strong interpersonal and communications skills; written, verbal and intuitive required.
- Ability to work effectively with youth and adults, experience working in diverse settings, must be creative, resourceful and proactive, with the ability to manage projects simultaneously.
