Job Overview and Requirements
ACCA is looking for a Program Specialist to assist with the day-to-day operations of our Meals on Wheels (MOW) program. The MOW program provides services to homebound older adults and adults with disabilities in Clarke and Barrow Counties. The program focuses on addressing food security and minimizing social isolation with the goal of helping older adults continue to age safely in their homes, with appropriate support.
The Program Specialist reports to the Meals on Wheels Program Director and is responsible for overseeing the processes and logistics for daily meal delivery. This position is responsible for working with ~100 Meals on Wheels volunteers and making sure all delivery routes are covered and appropriate post-delivery follow up is complete. The position is also required to assist with the creation and maintenance of client charts and required documentation, food ordering, and providing ancillary services.
This is a full-time (40-hr/week) position. Typical hours are Monday-Friday, 8am – 4:30pm. This position is required to work one holiday (of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day) per year on a rotating basis.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Assist with the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the MOW Program with a purpose of maintaining and improving client outcomes.
- Direct daily MOW operations related to food receipt and distribution.
- Complete required agency and funder documentation related to daily operations.
- Assist with the general supervision of MOW volunteers in the execution of their duties.
- Maintain all program forms and files for data collection, safety, and record keeping within program responsibility in accordance with funding source requirements and database needs of ACCA and MOW.
- Coordinate all MOW ancillary services to ensure client needs are met outside of nutrition and social support, including supplemental food, holiday gifts, pet food and supplies, box fans, blankets, toiletries and personal items.
- Assist in coordination of MOW service relative to food provision and contact with food vendor(s).
- Provide information, referrals, resources and assistance to program participants.
- Cooperate with coordinators of additional services to ensure the maximum and most effective use of funding. Maintain cooperative working relationships with community organizations and agencies to enhance programming options and services available for MOW clients.
- Working with other MOW staff, ensure appropriate meal and staffing coverage for holidays throughout the year.
- Provide assistance to ACCA in the overall fundraising needs for the agency and participate in ACCA’s Annual March for Meals Campaign held each March.
Essential Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree in a social service or related field from an accredited college or university AND/OR
- At least two years’ experience in social services and/or community relations, preferably in working with older adults, persons with disabilities and/or persons of all socio-economic backgrounds. Successful experience in case management, knowledge and utilization of resources, and general volunteer management.
- Strong written, documentation and oral communication skills.
- The ability to establish rapport and work with individuals and clients with a broad spectrum of backgrounds, values and experiences required.
- Demonstrated proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and virtual conferencing platforms, at an intermediate skill level, at minimum.
- Possesses the ability to quickly learn and utilize specific Meals on Wheels software program.
- Able to pass all mandated background checks.
- Valid Georgia Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
- CPR/First Aid certification (provided by employer).
