GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Reporting to the Director of the Center for Inclusive Excellence (CIE), the Program Specialist provides effective management of initiatives and programs designed to promote academic and co-curricular engagement of all students, with special emphasis on those from minoritized identities. This includes the Olivia A. Davidson Voices of Color Lecture Series, Intercultural Graduation Ceremony, and Heritage Month programs. The Program Specialist is responsible for management of operations and logistics including scheduling of events, marketing and promotion, and content creation for social media. The successful candidate will support student groups with educational programming and resources.

EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Student Development & Support:

  • Support and assist in developing, promoting, coordinating, and scheduling training modules and presentations for students, faculty, and staff that focus on topics such as: diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, cultural competence, and antiracism.
  • In collaboration with the Director of CIE, develop, recruit, and train Inclusive Excellence student peer facilitators to provide training modules and presentations for campus entities such as student organizations, classes, student employees, and summer freshmen orientation sessions.
  • Support and assist in developing, promoting, coordinating, and scheduling support services and advocacy initiatives for undergraduate and graduate students from underrepresented student populations including LGBTQ+, historically minoritized male communities, women, middle eastern students, first generation students, students from challenging socioeconomic backgrounds, and multiracial/ethnic students.
  • Support and assist in developing, promoting, coordinating, and scheduling regularly occurring initiatives that fosters a network of support and mentoring from faculty/staff to students within various cultural communities such as, but not limited to: Hispanic/Latino community office hours, LGBTQ community office hours, minority male mentoring program, etc.
  • Mentor and advise student affinity groups.

CIE Operations:

  • Provide operations and logistics planning for Center for Inclusive Excellence programs: maintain the event calendar, schedule events, reserve spaces, book catering, create marketing materials and promote Center activities, and manage and update social media accounts.
  • Elevate communication strategies (web, social media, etc.) to promote CIE engagement.
  • Represent CIE at Admissions and Enrollment related events.
  • Serve as a resource/referral to the campus community for challenges facing students from underrepresented populations and offer relevant presentations to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Assist with undergraduate student employee training and development as requested.
  • Assist in research projects designed to assess the effectiveness of CIE programming.
  • Conduct research on national and international programs focused on advocacy and support of traditionally under-served populations.
  • Complete other duties and tasks as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work primarily occurs on the FSU campus in an office space, the Center for Inclusive Excellence, and across campus. Some evening and weekend hours required.


Job Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity and antiracism.
  • Strong communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work and collaborate effectively with a diverse range of populations.
  • Demonstrate an ability in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and in facilitating social media venues (Facebook, twitter, etc.).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Applicants with fluent Spanish or Portuguese communication skills (written and oral) are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Experience in higher education, specifically with some experience working directly with equity issues and minoritized groups (BIPOC, LGBTQ+, undocumented students, students with disabilities, first generation students, etc.).
  • Experience facilitating diversity, inclusion, equity and antiracism trainings.
  • Experience advising student-based affinity groups.
  • Have the ability to create and deliver effective presentations for students and staff.
  • Demonstrate an ability in project management, documentation and reporting skills, assessment and evaluation, and analyzing and reporting data.
  • Have knowledge of the research on student development, cultural cognitive development, and underrepresented populations.
  • Program assessment skills.

Additional Information:


This is a full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible position in the Association of Professional Administrators (APA) bargaining unit with a union title of Staff Assistant. The anticipated starting salary for this position is $52,000.
