The School of Biomedical Engineering (SBME) stands on a foundation of strong faculty and research programs from four CSU colleges: the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering, and the Colleges of Health and Human Sciences, Natural Sciences, and Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. The unique structure of the School involves over 70 faculty members representing 14 departments to provide an interdisciplinary focus on improving health, fighting disease, and aiding persons with disabilities. Academic excellence across diverse fields converge to provide a robust program of over 50 residential and approximately 30 online graduate students, and 400 undergraduates. The undergraduate program is unique in its Dual-Degree approach whereby students obtain two bachelor’s degrees in five years – one full degree in Biomedical Engineering and one full degree in either Chemical & Biological, Computer, Electrical, Electrical with Lasers & Optics, or Mechanical Engineering. The undergraduate program is the first ABET-accredited BME program in Colorado and one of few dual degree programs in the country.

Position Summary
The Program Development, Communications and Department Administrator for the The School of Biomedical Engineering (SBME) will join a team that supports 70 faculty members representing 14 departments from across Colorado State University, 80 graduate students, and 400 undergraduate students to provide an interdisciplinary focus on improving health, fighting disease, and aiding persons with disabilities.

The ideal candidate will:
  • Use their experience, creativity and advanced communication skills to execute on department storytelling, manage social media, and maintain the SBME’s website content. They will be responsible for publishing news, promoting events and other community engagement efforts, and managing multimedia including web, digital signs, and photography or video production.


  • Use their well-honed organization and interpersonal skills to oversee all department and advising schedules/calendars, organize events such as E-Days, the Industry Advisory Board’s semiannual meetings, and the Graduate Seminar program.

  • Posses experience in administrative management for a unit/office including budgeting (tracking expenditures and revenue), management of student staff, writing and maintaining desk references and manuals for the department’s use, and surveying stake holders regarding various initiatives among other tasks.

This position reports to the Director of the School of Biomedical Engineering.

Required Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, engineering, or relevant discipline.
  • Two (2) years of experience creating and/or implementing campaigns in marketing, public relations, or communications.
  • Experience creating content on multiple media platforms such as digital, print and/or social media.
  • One (1) year of office administration experience such as communicating on phone, email and in person; electronic calendaring systems, and/or project/event management.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), especially Excel
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the time of hire; the department will not sponsor a visa for this position.

Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in English, communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or relevant discipline
  • Background in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) setting either in industry or higher education.
  • Three (3) years of experience with writing, editing and designing in print and online formats for a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience/proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, Lightroom, etc.)
  • Experience using WordPress open-source content management system (CMS).
  • Experience budgeting project expenses.
  • Experience building and/or managing databases.

  • Work with videographer to create compelling videos.
