Overview:
Macalester College’s Kofi Annan Institute for Global Citizenship and Community Engagement Center (KAIGC) seek a full-time Program Coordinator to serve as a co-leader in creating a vibrant and welcoming learning environment and fill a role contributing to efforts that lead to collaborative spaces for re-imagining a world that is focused on equity and justice by dismantling barriers and increasing access. This will be done by participating in the following:

  • Provides administrative support by tracking budgets, participants, and alumni; manages recruitment messaging and events; and organizes initiatives and programming.

  • Works with the Dean and Associate Dean's Office to organize and carry out hiring/training/supervision of a of student workers.

  • Supports the Fellowship Faculty Coordinator in assisting to lead Seminars, contributes to faculty development efforts that connect community building to methods in teaching development, and supports faculty mentor development for the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship (MMUF) and other academic programs.

The work of Program Coordinator includes many roles and tasks over the course of the academic year; flexibility, reliability, good humor, and the ability to multitask are essential, as is the ability to work with a wide range of people and personalities. It is vital that this individual fosters and promotes Macalester's culture of diversity and inclusion, encompassing individuals of any heritage, identity, status or orientation.

Work Hours:
Monday through Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Compensation: Depending on education and experience $46,345-$52,390 annually and includes full benefits. This is an hourly non-exempt position.


About the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship:

Established in 1988 by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program aims to increase the number of students from underrepresented groups, and others with a demonstrated commitment to eradicating racial disparities, who will pursue a Ph.D. and enter the professoriate in selected core fields. Each spring Macalester College selects up to five talented sophomores to participate in the program with a total of up to 10 Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellows participating in 2 cohorts (typically 5 juniors & 5 seniors).

Responsibilities:
Program Management (60%)
  • Collaboratively develop and support KAIGC academic and related programs, including providing avenues for additional students to explore academic research and engagement.
  • Manage recruitment, application, and selection processes. Monitor program budgets and track individual participants’ spending. Support fellows with administrative tasks such as accessing grant funding and reimbursements.
  • Track multiple students in their journeys through the academic cohort programs, including alumni progress and process loan reimbursements. Maintain program records, including contracts, reports, and administrative files. Support assessment activities.
  • Assist in planning and organizing events, including speakers, panels and celebrations for academic programs as needed.
  • Provide support for organizing seminars and conference travel for department staff. Including making arrangements for travel, meals, and other logistical items.

Faculty Development (25%)
  • Support the Faculty Coordinator in teaching the Mellon Mays Academic Year Seminar and Summer Seminar. This position may have the option to teach a summer seminar in their area of specialization and/or develop future courses for related programs and the broader student population.
  • Work with the Faculty Coordinator and Associate Dean/Co-Director to develop and implement faculty development that connects community-building to teaching development.
  • Work with the Faculty Coordinator and Associate Dean/Co-Directors on faculty mentor development for related programs.

Student Worker Hiring and Supervision: (10%)
  • Manage a strategy for hiring/training/supervising work-study positions in collaboration with colleagues within the KAIGC.
  • Assist with scheduling and supervising student workers who staff the front desk.
  • Supervise and mentor 5-8 student workers, working closely on projects that support the academic related programs, events, and meetings; set student learning goals and monitor progress, prioritizes work-flow, assigns and provides quality control of tasks.
  • Create and drive a social media and communications strategy for the KAIGC in collaboration with the Associate Deans/Co-Directors and the Faculty Coordinator. Supervise a team of work study students in this effort.

Performs other duties as assigned (5%)
  • Builds community among students, staff & faculty; thinks creatively to encourage participation and foster a warm atmosphere.
  • Acts as an administrative liaison and first point of contact for Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship; providing information about the fellowship and triaging requests as needed.
  • Works collaboratively with other units on campus such as IT, Facilities, etc. to best meet the needs of Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellows.
Qualifications:
Required

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in higher education or with a nonprofit required.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with individuals of color, first-generation college students and/or individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff and faculty across campus, ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing, ability to maintain confidential information and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and accuracy in financial and data management.
  • Skilled in managing budgets and providing accurate reporting as well as managing spending adjustments as necessary.
  • Publicity, word processing, financial accounting software experience, proficient in MS Office and Google Suite.
  • Excellent communication skills (i.e. writing, social media, digital design)

Experience assisting faculty, especially in areas related to increasing diversity in the faculty ranks of higher education and a higher level degree in a related field or area is preferred.

Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check is a condition of employment.

Compensation & Benefits:
This is a full time hourly non-exempt position with annual compensation of $46,000 - $52,000, depending on experience.
