Job Summary:
As a member of the Shared Services Tools Team, the Shared Services Technical Product Manager will work with customers and subject matter experts throughout the University to manage and deliver Shared Services and applications for Harvard University IT (HUIT). These platforms are foundational to the way we provide highly scalable and well-managed IT services to the academic and administrative community at Harvard. Reporting to the Director of TPS Shared Services, the incumbent will lead research, design, documentation, implementation, configuration, and validation of solutions to business needs. Solve large, complex, and multifaceted technical problems. May manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership on team activities related to service analysis initiatives and consider the business implications of technology applied to the current and future business environment
- Roll out of new tools and making them a part of shared services, for example: alerting
- Manage the lifecycle of existing tools that are in use by IT Partners
- Lead definition of system requirements, gap analysis, and identification of feasible alternative solutions that meet defined business objectives
- Own and maintain multiyear shared services and observability roadmap
- Align priorities related to shared services with HUIT goals and business objectives
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into systems requirements and scoping
- Build a community of subject matter experts/champions
- Engage with end-users to improve the usage of services and provide additional value to partners
- Oversee business transition management to ensure that users understand systems
- Analyze, architects and deploys shared services solutions for customers across the university
- Develop budget planning and advise units and schools on shared tools
- Function as a subject matter expert of monitoring and observability solutions
- Develops, deploy, and document monitoring and alerting workflows for HUIT customers
- Contribute to the development of long-term strategy, plans, and policies for a unit/school
- Lead staff skill augmentation, including monitoring best practices and tool usage
- Abide by and follow the Harvard University IT technical standards, policies, and Code of Conduct, University IT technical standards, policies, and Code of Conduct
Basic Qualifications
- Minimum of seven years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills
- Experience;
- working as part of an Agile team with demonstrable knowledge in writing user stories
- in DevOps & CI/CD concepts, tools, and implementation
- with ITIL and adoption of standard service management practices for an organization
- as an IT product manager, Architect or team-lead supporting monitoring, logging, alerting, and job-scheduling tools similar to LogicMonitor, Splunk, PagerDuty, IBM Workload Scheduler, Ansible Tower/Ansible Automation Platform, Atlassian tools
- Willingness to;
- learn new technologies and tools, to the extent of training and onboarding other teams, with the support of subject matter experts
- occasionally work off-hours and assist the team in emergency situations
- Familiarity with;
- cloud Platforms and SaaS/PaaS methodologies
- architecture and technical components of Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure, Azure, o365 infrastructure, and VMware infrastructure
- integrating authentication and security into enterprise applications, including Single Sign On, Multifactor Authentication and SAML Authorization
- highly secure environments that contain FERPA and HIPPA data, and familiarity supporting and deploying secure environments
- Highly adaptable to changing environment and priorities
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to communicate to technical and non-technical audiences
Certificates and Licenses
- Completion of Harvard IT Academy specified foundational courses (or external equivalent) preferred
Working Conditions
HUIT actively supports hybrid work where business and team needs allow. For those interested in remote work this position can be performed remotely. All remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, and WA).
Travel to campus may be necessary based on business needs and the nature of work. Examples include bi-annual or quarterly Town Halls, critical business meetings or other work events. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process.
