QUALIFICATIONS:

· Must be a Certified Medication Technician in good standing and meet all applicable federal and state certification requirements or in training to satisfactorily complete the requirements to become a Certified Medication Technician.

· Must be at least 18 years of age.

· Completion of secondary education or otherwise show the ability to read and write legibly and understandably.

· Must speak and understand English.

· Previous experience or completion of the appropriate training program.

· Positive attitude towards the elderly.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (WITH OR WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION):

A. DRUG ADMINISTRATION FUNCTIONS:

DUTIES:

Prepare and administer medication and/or treatments as ordered by the Physician; review medication sheets for completeness, accuracy, and adherence, and notify the charge nurse of stop orders before the last dosage is administered; verify resident identities to ensure prescribed medication is administered to the proper resident; order stock medication, supplies and equipment as necessary; and, ensure that adequate levels of medications, supplies, and equipment are available at all times, reporting needs to go to the charge nurse.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to read and write in English, ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and directions, ability to communicate with residents, and personnel consultants, and ability to distinguish smells and tastes.

RESIDENT’S RIGHTS FUNCTIONS

DUTIES:

Maintain resident confidentiality; treat residents with kindness, dignity, and respect; know and comply with Resident’s Rights rules; and promptly report all resident complaints, accidents, and incidents to the supervisor.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to communicate with residents and ability to remain calm under stress.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS (WITH OR WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION):

A. SUPPORT FUNCTIONS:

DUTIES:

Assist as directed in proper admission, transfer, and discharge of residents; assist the licensed nurse to inventory resident’s medications and report food articles and medications found in resident rooms; and, report the need for medication and any defective equipment to the charge nurse or Director of Nursing.

PHYSICAL SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to communicate with residents and ability to read and write in English.

B. SAFETY AND SANITATION FUNCTIONS:

DUTIES:

Understand the Universal Precautions and follow established Infection Control, Hazardous Communication, and other safety rules; ensure the cleanliness of medication room, medication carts, and use of infection control practices in giving of medication; and, promptly report all violations of safety and sanitation rules to supervisor.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Walking, bending, lifting, grasping, fine hand coordination, ability to read and write, and ability to distinguish smells.

C. STAFF DEVELOPMENT FUNCTIONS:

DUTIES:

Attend and participate in orientation, training, educational activities, and staff in-service.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to understand and apply training and in-service education.
