Overview

The Principal Software Engineer will have senior knowledge and hands-on experience in architecting, developing, and implementing enterprise scale solutions. The principal engineer will be expected to perform a leading role in all phases of the software development life cycle, including programming, reviewing, and deploying code. This individual will provide technology leadership with emphasis on mentoring junior engineers on the Innovation team and influencing other software engineering teams on best practices and emerging trends in the market.

The Principal Software Engineer will collaborate with Burlington stakeholders on understanding pain points, architect and develop solutions for both on premise and cloud environments, prevent technical bottlenecks, and deploy innovative products. The individual will lead and facilitate research & development efforts on new technologies that can drive sales, improve associate productivity, and improve the customer experience across stores, supply chain, merchandising and corporate.

The Principal Software Engineer will steer the company’s technology innovation effort and stay up to date on trends & best practices.

Responsibilities:

• Go-to Expert for technical solutions on Innovation Team and influence other teams/depts.
• Lead design, development, testing, and deployment of software solutions to address customer needs in stores, supply chain, merchandising, and corporate.
• Provide technical oversight to the development process including reviewing the technical design and the deployment architecture.
• Solve technical problems of highest scope, complexity, and ambiguity with heavy emphasis on scalability, performance, reusability, and resiliency.
• Facilitate and drive knowledge sharing by owning and maintaining comprehensive documentation.
• Mentor junior engineers and elevate their technical skillset to help build and foster an effective team.
• Influence technology paradigms in both the team and other departments
• Identify and introduce new technologies, solutions that can elevate the entire IT department & organization.
• Push company innovation efforts and stay up to date on software industry trends

Skills and Abilities:

• 12+ years working in Software Development or relevant work experience.
• Extensive experience in delivering scalable solutions.
• Experience in a technical lead role and mentoring software engineers
• Strong technical acumen
• Proven experience programming in Java/Python (Android, iOS experience a plus )
• Proven experience in a cloud environment (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• Fundamental knowledge of software engineer best practices, agile methodologies, CI/CD pipeline
• Experience interfacing with members of other teams to gain clarity, triage issues, and drive cross functional initiatives.
• Experience with both relational (e.g. PostgreSQL, Oracle) and NoSQL (Mongo) databases
• Experience with request processing such as REST, or GraphQL
• Familiar with deployment tools and environments such as Kubernetes, Terraform, GitHub Actions, Jenkins

Education: BS/MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience
