Job Description: EARLY CHILDHOOD Teacher
Title: Lead Teacher
Purpose: to provide for all aspects of teaching in a Pre-School classroom, including the supervision of any possible teacher assistant.
Accountability: Accountable to the Director of Bilingual Rock Immersion School.
Minimum Qualifications: Meets Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Teacher requirements. BA in Early Childhood Education preferred.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 30 pounds. (Example, lifting children, stacking and un-stacking nap cots, assisting with arranging and moving classroom furniture).
Responsibilities: Teaching of pre-school students to include, but will not be limited to, the following:
Coordinate with Teacher Assistant to facilitate a child-centered, developmentally appropriate curriculum. Create and develop content-based curriculum grounded in the Common Core State Standards, National Foreign Language Standards, and understanding of child development.
Demonstrate familiarity with the State of Illinois, ExceleRate IL program, for the purpose of creating and maintaining classroom and curriculum according to the Environmental Rating Scale Standards, as well as policies and philosophy of the school.
Prepares lesson plans with Teacher Assistant and submits copies to the Director, or copies Director in parent communications which includes information of classroom activities and projects.
Notifies and involves the Director, and when appropriate, Teacher Assistant of any unusual circumstances involving teachers, children, or parents.
Attend all staff meetings and in-service trainings.
Meet professional growth standards of 20 clock hours of training per teaching year and records all training on the Gateway portal per DCFS standards.
Communicate with parents, including student progress, classroom activities and student evaluations, including parent conferences to be offered at least twice annually.
Maintain safety and supervision of children per DCFS licensing regulations.
Maintain ordered arrangement, appearance, décor, and learning environment of the classroom, keeping room tidy and in a clean condition at all times.
Participate in school-wide, classroom related, after-hour activities.
Relationships: Relates to students, their parents, and school staff.
