JOB TITLE: Pool Manager
REPORTS TO: Aquatics or Assigned Director
LOCATION: Okmulgee Family YMCA
FLSA TYPE: Seasonal
JOB PURPOSE: The Pool Manager assures the safety of all aquatic participants in and around the pool area, maintains a safe pool environment, and supervises all other lifeguards. In the absence of the Aquatics or Assigned Director, the Pool Manager supervises all functions in the pool area. All staff must strive to work cooperatively with fellow employees to achieve the goals and objectives of the YMCA.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (not a complete list):
- Responsible for supervision of all aquatics programs and operations in absence of Aquatics or Assigned Director.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all members, participants, and employees by interpreting and enforcing all policies established by the YMCA.
- Ensure quality performance of all aquatics staff.
- Accurate & timely reporting of all record keeping including attendance, chemical readings, incident reports, etc.
- Interpret and enforce pool rules & policies to ensure the safety of all participants and swimmers.
- While Lifeguarding, refrain from other duties, such as testing chemicals, storing equipment, etc. while actively guarding. Additional duties would be completed prior to or after actively guarding or during a shift rotation when you have a short break from actively guarding.
- Maintain pool area including chemicals, cleaning, equipment and proper storage, security, etc.
- Support and follow YMCA policies and decisions and answer member questions about the YMCA and its programs.
- Use sound judgment and take a leadership role in any emergency that takes place around the pool or pool area.
- Other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
SKILLS and KNOWLEDGE:
Required:
- 19 years of age and have high school diploma or equivalent
- Current YMCA lifeguard certification
- Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and Oxygen certifications
- At least 2 years’ experience as a lifeguard
- Proficient in swimming and safety skills
- Must demonstrate qualities of a leader and be able to complete tasks with minimal supervision
- Must be observant, safety conscious and able to react calmly and quickly to an emergency
Preferred:
- Bilingual - English/Spanish
- Knowledge of pool chemicals and record keeping
