If you’re looking for a meaningful and intellectually stimulating career in public policy arena, we are hiring for an enthusiastic and organized Policy Outreach Manager to join our state policy outreach team at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. This is an exciting opportunity to present the latest actionable research to policy makers and stakeholders across the country. You will be part of a high performing team and work closely with the Director of State Outreach to devise and execute engagement strategies for a portfolio of policy issues including health care, regulatory policy, land use and zoning, artificial intelligence, and more.
Responsibilities
- Plan and assist with the development and execution of effective outreach strategies and programs that connect Mercatus research with state policy audiences.
- Manage and develop relationships with key stakeholders and thought leaders.
- Educate and prepare Mercatus scholars on the evolving context of policy debates and potential opportunities to advance the use of their research by state policy audiences.
- Collaborate with other Mercatus teams (research, communications, events) to ensure that Mercatus research is effectively reaching target audiences.
- Some travel required (approximately 20%-30%) to conferences, state capitols, and accompanying scholars to testify before committees.
Qualifications
- Ability to think outside the box and strategize in emerging research topics.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, quickly, and under pressure.
- Ability to meet deadlines while juggling multiple priorities.
- A bachelor’s degree in economics, political science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years state legislative or public policy research experience is required, with working knowledge of the state policy-making process (Governor, state legislature, state think tank). Political activities do not fulfill this requirement.
- Experience in a public policy research organization can be substituted for legislative experience.
