Duties
- Complete installation, modification and repairs of various plumbing systems and equipment.
- Test systems and equipment after completing work to ensure proper circulation, pressure, flow and leak-free joints.
- Install reduced pressure backflow valves to protect water supplies from contamination.
- Install fire sprinklers to ensure supply systems provide adequate pressure and flowrate.
- Maintain and repair wet and dry pipe fire sprinkler systems.
- Determine the routing, placement, slant, slope, fall and operation of various plumbing systems.
- Perform chemical sampling and chemical adjustments for the installation swimming pools.
- Apply shop mathematics to layout angles, arcs and circles required to perform plumbing installation.

Conditions of Employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Incumbent must obtain (within 6 months of employment) and maintain Backflow certification.
- This position is subject to call back, to include weekends and holidays, to perform emergency repair work.
- This job requires considerable standing, stooping and bending. The employee is required to work on ladders and scaffolds which frequently involve working in uncomfortable or awkward positions.
- Work is performed both inside and outside. The employee is exposed to mud and water, and is subject to infection from unsanitary work sites.
- Injury may occur from use of power and hand tolls and occasional use of caustic soda and hot lead.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Plumber~ without more than normal supervision. Install, repair, modify and maintain plumbing fixtures, disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems. Inspect lines and equipment for leaks, corroded pipes and T&P valves, missing insulation and faulty pressure controls. Maintain and repair fire sprinkler systems. Maintain, repair and install valves, piping, radiators, heaters, storage tanks, and distribution lines or similar equipment associated with the plumbing trade. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
