Job description

The Physical Therapy Assistant is responsible for administering physical therapy modalities of treatment as supervised by the staff physical therapist. Administers treatments and physical agents as directed by the staff physical therapist, afterthe physical therapist has evaluated the patient. The PTA assists with restoration of patient functioning to prevent disability following injury, disease or physical disability. Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities. The PTA participates in operational aspects of the department, maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. Participates in all infection control, departmental equipment training, organizational safety and fire safety programs. All functions of the Physical Therapy Assistant are carried out according to the Glen Rose Medical Center’s Mission/Vision Statement and policies. The Physical Therapy Assistant reports to the supervising Physical Therapist and/or Director of Physical Therapy.

A. Physical Requirements:

Good general health and stress coping ability. Full mobility and ability to participate in vigorous activity. Ability to speak and hear to allow discussions with patients and peers as well as make accurate physical assessments. Possesses vision acuity for accurate reading of equipment and recording on patients’ charts. Must be physically able to lift and move patients.

B. Educational/Licensure/Training:

· A degree from a school or college approved by the American Physical Therapy Association.

· Holds current license as Physical Therapy Assistant.

· Current BCLS (CPR) certification.

· Ability to read and communicate effectively in English, (otherlanguages preferred).

· Must possess strong written and verbal skills.

· Basic computer knowledge.

· Basic knowledge of physical medicine, physical therapy modalities, anatomy and physiology.

· Basic knowledge of physical therapy machine operation, maintenance and repairs of same.

· CPR Certified.
