Primary Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of a licensed pharmacist, performs a wide variety of activities not requiring the professional judgment of a pharmacist. These duties include, but are not limited to, reading and recording drug orders, preparing medications, procuring and restocking medications and other medical supplies, delivering medications, and billing medications. Considers age and special needs of patients served.

Essential Duties
- Prepares medications for the unit-dose distribution system.
- Prepares medications for intravenous use.
- Prepares take-home or nursing home medications for discharge and long term care patients.
- Maintains patient medication records.
- Maintains appropriate medication and medical supply inventories in patient care areas and the pharmacy.
- Picks up drug orders and delivers medications.
- Processes patient billing and pharmacy purchasing documents.
Other Duties
- Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
- Follows established safety and infection control procedures.
- Follows established procedures when working with high risk drugs.
- Maintains confidentiality of medical information at all times.
- Complies with hospital and departmental policies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
- Employment is subject to being completely vaccinated or having a WGH approved COVID-19 Vaccine Exemption prior to providing services for the facility.
Skills/Knowledge:
- Mathematical skills
- Familiarity with medical terms and drug names through education or previous work experience.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in the English language sufficiently well to perform job duties.
- Typing skills sufficiently adequate to produce accurate medication labels and/or to input data into the pharmacy computer system.
- Possess flexibility and ability to work harmoniously and effectively with other personnel, patients, and the general public.
- Ability to maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
Education:
- High school or equivalent
Qualifications:
- One year pharmacy experience preferred, applicants without prior experience may be considered for extended orientation and training.
- Intravenous admixture experience (preferable).
- Purchasing experience preferable (ordering supplies, stock, dealing with vendors, etc.)
- Previous experience with pharmacy computer equipment and Liberty software (preferable).
- Pharmacy Technician Certification (preferable).
Working Conditions
- Works in areas which are artificially well lit and of fluctuating temperatures (hot/humid to air conditioned).
- Moderate to constant sound level.
- May be exposed to intermittent toxic odors, chemical/toxins when working with chemotherapeutic agents (cytotoxic).
- Work pace is usually medium/steady, sometimes fast; full or partial days with few breaks. May work beyond normal working hours.
Equipment Use
- Ability to operate equipment required to perform the functions of the position (i.e. syringes, needles, etc. to measure, withdraw and transfer medications accurately, rapidly and without contamination).
Mental and Physical Demands
- Ability to lift/carry or push/pull up to 30 pounds; push/pull up to 250 pounds via wheeled device.
- Position involves reaching, sitting, standing and walking.
- Work may involve periods of prolonged standing and sitting.
