Job Description
Reports to: Manager and/or owner
Summary: Supervise and coordinate activities of the Kennel Workers, Playtime Workers and Shift Leaders.Attend to and care for animals such as rodents, birds, dogs, and cats that are staying in the kennel.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following; however, other duties may be assigned as needed:
Examining ailing animals to determine the need of Veterinarian services.
Providing emergency transportation of pet to a veterinarian if needed.
Handling any/all types of human injuries.
Providing emergency transportation of people to emergency services if needed.
Liaison between local veterinarians and customers.
Ensuring that all workers understand all Sleep Hollow Pet Ranch policies.
Enforcing all of Sleepy Hollow Pet Ranch’s safety regulations.
Suggesting changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of the kennel.
Resolving problems and assist workers in solving problems.
Developing and implementing cost saving measures.
Ensuring that all people and animals are treated with respect.
Ensuring work responsibilities are covered when absent.
Committing to long hours of work when necessary.
Suggesting plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
Training of Kennel and Playtime workers.
Assisting Operations Manager with weekly scheduling.
Maintaining inventory records for the kennel.
Communicating with customers about their pet’s stay with us.
Delegating job responsibilities to the Kennel/Playtime workers, examines work results, provides additional training to improve Kennel/Playtime worker’s performance.
Ensuring that all Kennel Attendants/Playtime worker’s/Shift Leader’s work is checked and all checklists are filled out and initialed.
Giving medications and filling out medication chart
Handling employee conflict(s) immediately and informing the Operations Manager/Owner.
Performing the activities of Kennel/Playtime worker’s as described in the Kennel Attendant/Playtime Worker Job Description below:
Feeding and watering animals according to schedules
Cleaning and disinfecting runs on the inside and outside that may be soiled with feces, urine and/or vomit.
Transfers animals between runs.
Laundry, dishes and general kennel cleaning
Walking, running, playing with pets
Playing with cats
Filling out all checklists and making sure sure all activities and special treats are marked
Properly using and maintaining all equipment used at SHPR
Scooping outside runs and playtime fields as needed
Knowing and following all of SHPR policies and procedures to ensure safety
Immediately cleaning up all pet “accidents”, muddy footprints, messy or muddy pets
Must be very detail oriented
Must maintain confidentiality
Education and/or Experience
Veterinary Technology Degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; Two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field (kennel, shelter, veterinarian,day care). Veterinary Technology Degree or equivalent from two-year college of Technical school. Would except workers from the human medical field as long as they had animal experience also.
Must have knowledge or be willing to learn to use the Kennel Soft program.
Must be able to work 30-40 hours per week. Must be able to work most weekends and some holidays.
Must have a valid Driver’s License.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stop kneel, crouch or crawl, read, write, talk to or hear and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to be in constant contact with a variety of animals on a daily basis.
Work environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, extremely cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the kennel is usually very loud. The employee could also come in contact with urine, feces, blood and vomit.
