The successful hire will work under direct supervision of a licensed public applicator, train to mix and apply pesticides including restricted-use chemicals, set mechanical traps and use other methods as required to control or exterminate pest as an Industrial, Institutional, and Health Related Pest Control Technician. Train on how to inspect infested areas, observe clues such as tracks, food, and structural damage to determine species and population of pest.
This position represents a dual level posting and will be filled as an Associate Pest Control Technician (SK1) or next highest level Pest Control Technician (SK2). The hiring manager will determine the job level based on the skills, experience, and qualifications of the selected candidate.
What We’re Looking For:
Education and Experience (SK1):
- High School Diploma/GED
- This position is an entry level and has no previous years of experience required
Skills Needed:
- Must be able to read, write, and understand/communicate in English to effectively perform in this position
- Daily communication with customers on variety of issues
- Must be able to read blueprints
- Must pass a physical examination and successfully pass a medical examination every year to conform with safety regulations
- Respirator protection may be required in certain operations
- Under direct supervision of a licensed public applicator Manage wildlife on campus and airport property
- Become familiar with FFA reg’s at the airport and the DRN when dealing with wildlife using the State permit and the US Fish and Wildlife when using the federal permit and also dealing with the USDA when working at Vet school as well as the Meat lab, both inspected by the USDA
- Must obtain the following within 12 months:
- Licensed public applicator, 7A and 7B category
- Become familiar with University Policy and Procedures and the different levels of service per building and room types
- A valid US or Canadian driver’s license
What is helpful (Preferred):
- Knowledge of measuring and handling chemicals
- Familiarity with Purdue campus
What We’re Looking For:
Education and Experience (SK2):
To be considered for the SK2 position you’ll need the above requirements plus the following:
- Three years previous pest control experience as a certified operator
Skills Needed:
- Certification of licensed public applicator category 7A and 7B
- Knowledge of measuring and handling chemicals
- Daily communication with customers on variety of issues
- Ability to read blueprints
- Respiratory protection required in certain operations
- Manage wildlife on campus and airport property
- Familiarity with FFA reg’s at the airport and the DRN when dealing with wildlife using the State permit and the US Fish and Wildlife when using the federal permit and also dealing with the USDA when working at Vet school as well as the Meat lab, both inspected by the USDA
- Must obtain the following within 12 months:
- NRA Firearms certification
- Pyrotechnic certification
- Category 8 (community wide mosquito control, public applicator, anticoagulants, and Cy-kick) license
- Become familiar with University Policy and Procedures and the different levels of service per building and room types
Additional Information:
- All new hires will be expected to follow Protect Purdue guidelines
- Purdue will not sponsor an employment authorization for this position
- A Background Check will be required for employment in this position
- The hours for this Evening position are Monday through Friday; 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Occasional overtime may be required
- This position is subject to 24-hour callback for emergencies
- FLSA: Non-Exempt (Eligible for Overtime)
