Summary
The Set-up and Pre-Delivery Technician is responsible for completing the Set-up of major units and the Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) process including detailing and performing light maintenance work on major units. This is an entry level position and enables the incumbent to have a career path to the Parts Department, or to the Service Department, as a Parts Counter Person, or Service Writer or a Technician, once that level of knowledge and proficiency has been proven.
This person will coordinate with the Service Manager and appropriate Sales personnel to ensure that the Set-up and pre delivery inspection processes are completed safely and in a timely manner, meeting all quality and delivery expectations. As with all positions within our dealership, a PDI Technician is expected to be committed to excellent customer service, upholding the highest ethical standards, and as well as being capable of cooperatively with all departments.
PDI Technician Essential Duties:
- Receive units upon delivery.
- Use forklift to unload, load, and move crates.
- Inspect units thoroughly upon delivery to determine overall condition, identifying and documenting any and all freight damage.
- When damage is found to crates or units, immediately take pictures and report it to the Service Manager.
- Inspect crate and unit prior and during set-up and/or PDI process, to determine overall condition.
- Use the applicable set-up and PDI reference sheets to determine safety needs and other potential repair needs.
- Properly and completely document the necessary information on each repair order using the required three Cs (Condition, Cause, Correction).
- Properly perform appropriate quality control tests for each repair to verify correction.
- Provide completed Set-up and PDI findings to the Service Manager immediately.
- Adhere to warranty processing expectations.
- Ensure that appropriate warranty information (and parts retention) is provided to support the dealership’s warranty claims processes.
- Coordinate with the Sales Department and Service Manager using established processes and quality control checks.
- Retrieve units from other storage locations.
- Assist Service Department with detailing units.
- Assist Sales Department with moving units out for display.
- Assist Sales Department with moving units in at end of business day.
- Assist Service Department with moving units in and out of shop areas.
- Maintain good housekeeping in the Set-up and PDI area as well as the wash area and vehicle staging/storage areas.
- Assist Service Department with housekeeping/cleanup.
- Install parts or accessories as instructed.
- Perform work in accordance with factory specifications.
- Complete work within the scheduled or expected period.
- Operate a computer utilizing multiple computer programs.
- Use the telephone system appropriately.
- Other tasks as assigned.

- Stay abreast of latest trends and techniques pertaining to motorcycle and powersports functions, operability, and repair.
- Keep current on all factory training including certifications, web-based or other training, technical service bulletins, other updated literature, and new model training.
- Ensure that adequate internal controls are functioning appropriately within work areas.
- Adhere to corporate policies/procedures, documentation standards, and applicable regulatory requirements (i.e., federal, state, local).
- Comply with the BAR RO standards (Write it Right).
- Exercise an appropriate level of courtesy, tact, and professionalism in communications and in dealing with co-workers and the general public.

Education/Experience/Licensure:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Powersports / Motorsports experience
- Mechanically inclined
- Must have a positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Attention to detail and an organized workspace
- Ability to lift/move 80 lbs.
- Ability to support and push large motorcycles, ATV's, SxS's in excess of 800 lbs.
- Understand and follow PDI manuals and service manuals
- Test drive to ensure work was completed correctly
- Valid driver’s license with motorcycle endorsement
- Current CA-Motorcycle (M-1) driver’s license preferred.
- Clean driving record.
- Forklift Experience Highly Preferred

Requirements
- Must be authorized to work in United States.
- Must provide own transportation to work with a valid driver’s license and provide proof of insurance. Clean driving record.
- Pass a background check.
- Pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Class M1 License Preferred (Class M1-You may operate any two-wheel motorcycle, motor-driven cycle, or motorized scooter and all vehicles listed under Class M2)
- This position does not require use of personal tools. The dealership provides all tools necessary to complete the requirements of this position.
Compensation:
- Hourly Range: $18.00 - $25.00, non-exempt hourly, DOE
- Non-Exempt, Hours 40 hours per week, flexible hours depending on needs, may require evening and/or weekend work.
